From WRX to FiST

Hi,

I'm a new 2016 FiST owner coming from a 2003 WRX wagon that I drove for over 13 years. I'm really enjoying the flat cornering of the FiST. I'll by DDing the FiST and commuting 150 miles round trip to work, so I'm already thinking of swapping out the black OEM 17" wheels with summer tires for some all-season 16s.

I've been lurking around the tire and wheel forum and looking forward to poking around the rest of the site.

Welcome! Definitely consider a RMM as your other "first mod". Besides that, the car is fantastic stock and you won't need to do any more mods - but you will be tempted ;)

I like the sharper handling of the FiST. The earlier WRXs I think were more rally inspired and so the suspension was much softer than the late models. So my old WRX was a lot of fun on a dirt road. I don't imagine doing much off-roading in the FiST, but I'm on pavement much of the time and we have lots of paved twisty roads in the mountains of virginia, so those are way more fun in the FiST.

One thing I do miss is the throttle response of the WRX - very mechanical. You really have to bury pedal on FiST to get to the power -- I'm assuming this is just an electronic throttle thing that all new cars have to squeeze out a few more MPGs, which is good for all the highway driving I'm doing. I got 36 MPG on my last tank -- 10 more than I got with the WRX.

I probably would have gotten a new WRX if it came in a hatch, but alas...[:(]

I'm definitely a novice when it comes to mods. Would an RMM smooth out a highway ride as much as moving to 16" wheels?

It'll improve your shifts, but a smaller wheel and changing your springs can comfort the car quite a bit. If you're looking to have the cars power freed up a bit, I'd look into a Cobb accessport with a better filter and stage 1 tune. The car will instantly feel alot peppier.
