On top of rolling your windows down, shut your car off and turn on your interior lights. You may need it on to grab your registration anyway, but it helps the officer to see in as he approaches and will relieve tension that he may have of you possibly being 'a bad guy'.
AND hands in PLAIN site on the steering wheel always worked for me ..

That's a good idea! Yeah any time I've gotten pulled over I leave my hands on the steering wheel and do as instructed and I've only got warnings because of being cooperative.

I did (always do) all of that, I also always tell everyone to do the same.
But at the end of all that was said, the officer asked me to roll up my window, glanced for only a second and said it was too dark.

After conferring with his partner, the officer returned to me and said that he was writing me for the tinted windows and informed me that this was a correctable offence and NO points would go against my license.
He also told me to be more careful and reminded me that the laws are there to protect everyone.

I signed the ticket, thanked him for his consideration, told him it wouldn't happen again and went home.

I thought it would be a "fix-it ticket" but I wasn't sure. I'm pretty sure it is here too.

Yes, did I fail to mention that?

I actually got pulled over for doing 97MPH.
But because my great looks and charm, I only got the fix-it-ticket.

You have to send in a receipt stating the tint was removed right? I just had a friend at a local shop make me one and sent it in.

Unfortunately, that won't work for me.

I have found out a few things in the last few days.
In the LA Superior Court System there in no way to just pay the bail and not fix the infraction.
You MUST fix it and show proof.
The proof must be signed off by Law Enforcement or a certified shop and there are no certified shops for window tint.
Also NO mater what is says anywhere, NO tint at all (except factory) is allowed on the front door windows or windshield in California.

Not here in MD. You must show up at a state trooper barracks or motor vehicle administration and have every window metered. They will satisfy the work order only if all the windows pass the test.

o wow... i'm not sure if its worst there in cali or up here in canada =P
up here in canada(at least in ontario) they don't have anything that states just says it can't be too dark but doesn't say what is too dark. so its left to the police's judgement to tell if its too dark or not... for the most part unless you're a ricer or drive like an idiot police won't really care unless they are behind on their quotas =P

Also not sure about window tints, but if you get pulled over for having HID's or improper lights, all you have to do is to take a picture and bring it to court and it gets thrown out on the spot =]

I'm not sure where alot of this "30%" rule is coming from, but I think it's super important to set it straight.

In California, the window tint rule is Vehicle Code 26708. In short, you cannot tint the Front windscreen, or the front-driver's-side windows with any film that is not Transparent. You can put /clear/ uv coatings on the window, but technically any tint whatsoever is illegal. Also, if you have any tinting on the rear window, then you must have mirrors on both sides of the car.

I call window-tint tickets "excuse tickets" in that the cop will use it as an excuse to pull you over if he thinks maybe you can be busted for something else. That's my theory to explain why you see a ton of cars with tinted fronts that never seem to get a ticket, and why I never got a ticket in the Infiniti with 20% on the front windows, but why in my little lowered Yaris S or Scion xB (original), I got pulled over for it constantly. They see your car and bet you're doing something wrong, and use the tint as an excuse.

If you ever get the fix-it ticket, remove the tint and take the car to a police station in the same county where you got the ticket. They'll sign off on it and it's like $15 to pay at the courthouse. There are a few window tint places, including one in my city, that will remove the tint for free, and will re-tint after you get the ticket cleared. Not sure why you'd want to, but they are out there.

Ohio sucks, the front windshield is only allowed to be 70% and the sides 50%. I think I'm just gonna do 20% all the way around anyway. Everyone I know that has darker tint says they have never been pulled over. If I do get pulled over, I'm a girl and I'll just say I didn't know any better lol
