This is the first car I've owned with a 6 speed manual tranny (owned many 5's,a few 4's,and one 3 on the tree). I've always had a bad habit of pulling too close to the concrete stop in many public parking spaces, usually scraping the nose. Not with this car! So I told myself. Anywho......I'm used to having reverse on the far right(where 6 is on the ST),not To the left of 1st. Well, you probably figured out what happened. On a slight downward incline, approximately 2 ft from said concrete stop,I put the car in "reverse",give it some extra gas to pull away safely, and SCRAPE!!!!! Anyone else think this is a bad design,1st and R right next to each other? I text drove a 370Z 6 speed with R to the right of 6. That way, either you go back or the vehicle dies.

I like the current design. My father owns a 350Z and I've driven it a few times. I don't like how they did the Reverse where you press the entire knob down. I would like it better if they did it with the lock mechanism like ours.

I like it beside 1. It has a reveres lock out to prevent accidental shift into reverse. It's a shorter stroke than having it beside 5 or 6. Then again both my first manual car and the FiST have the same shift pattern.

Ok, any opinions on the EZ lip or Lip skirt or the like for "Reverse dyslexic" folks as myself? Thanks

You just scraped your lip and now want to stick something to it to make it lower? I guess my opinion would be to avoid it at all costs.

Normally I have that opinion because it's cheap, but this time my opinion is because it's cheap and because you'll just damage it anyways.

The set up is fine... I'd worry about learning where the gears are if I were you.

That's cruel, but true. lol

My car is lowered so I learned early where the front of the car is.
This way I can stop well behind the curb stops.

No, because it has a reverse lockout feature and you can literally feel it going further over to the left when it engages (than where 1st gear is). If you think the gears are odd in this car, then you've never driven a 1980's grey market 928S. heh. [wink] Reverse is where 1st gear is, 1st gear is down (or where 2nd gear is), 2nd gear is up where it should be 3rd gear, etc etc. Yeah, that took me some getting used to for sure! [goofydrunk]. [:p]

^^^ I put the 928S into reverse thinking I was in 1st... more than once. [:0] This one time I *almost* backed into someone when the light turned green. lol. Sorry about your scrapes though. [paranoid]

I eventually got used to it but I also owned a 300ZX TT and MR2 Turbo at the same time, so it was always a bit confusing to say the least. lol

The manual 5 speeds were very very rare and that's why I got a "grey market" car (one that was originally sold in Europe and then shipped to the states). Back then there wasn't nearly as much red tape as there is today for self importing vehicles. That was back in 1990. I swear I could wind out that 1st gear to almost 80 mph... hahahaha. It wasn't that quick but it had 310hp and could run almost 170 mph. [woot] Not much back then could hang with it on the top end, not even Corvettes.

Yeah, i deserve that
Nah man, it happens to the best of us... especially when a car is new and you aren't used to it. The clutch in my 2011 MS3 was so different (where and how it engaged) that I made the salesman REALLY nervous (when I went on my first test drive in a FiST). hahaha. I may have even stalled it out once or or twice or over revved it. Needless to say I never purchase the car I test drive. LMAO

I feel ya bro , I drive a 2000 focus for a daily driver , and my ST on the weekends , driving both all the time with total opposite reverse gear patterns does suck ,when u go from one to another u must remind yourself about reverse , I can see what happened to u very easy , down and right , up and left it becomes like a reflex muscle memory movement , hard habit to break .
