Both the V1 and Escort have their pros and cons. I've been very happy with my V1 and would recommend it to anyone that's in the market for a radar detector.

I ran a 8500 x50 for YEARS, like 2005. But in my local area, all the city cops and most the highway patrols have moved upto lasers. If you don't have a laser jammer, its your ace. No much thing as "early detection" with laser. My "laser shifter" that paired with the 8500 x50 ( both made my escort of course ) was more reliable than I ever ever ever thought possible. Laser detection has moved on, and I'm sure there are better lazer jammers out the now ( I know there is ).

My advice... Either research the best laser jammer and buy it at the same time as the newer escort 8500+ model ( the one with a cord to it, and GPS for marking false alerts ). Or don't buy anything. The day you count on a radar detector and get popped, it could mean jail time or $400+ at least. So unless your covering both bases, I'd fly without one. No one needs a false sense of protection, its like using a garbage can lid in a sword fight. You have something, its only going to work or well, and so many times.

Rich guys always use the V1. I'm sure its not bad. But that gps to cancel out flase alerts on the escort is SWEET. And when I was using it, i was so impressed with how far it could detect. When I needed the laser jammer ( 2 times in 3 years ), it worked perfect. But at the time, it just wasn't in my area. Now... I have my x50 in the closest and won't use it because 80% of the cops in my area now have laser, and I don't have the $ to buy a $600 laser jammer ( which is about how much you need to spend on one ).

I live in an area that doesnt use laser. Also Have had my escort for 4 years. I havent had a ticket since. Your radar detector is a tool, to aid in your avoiding tickets. It's not a magic wand that lets you speed.

V1 is dated technology. It's not as sensitive as the newer escorts, Escort is also on the forefront of development.

I've used V1's. useless in comparison in my opinion. People buy into the arrow marketing scheme. Why does it matter where the radar is? Radar is radar and if its legit its bad. Slow down.

I love my X50, it does the job for me. I could couple it with a new live wire and get gps updates and such.

Well I live in Cali so laser jammers are illegal

Laser jammers are illegal everywhere, so is speeding....

V1 in my Subaru & Escort 8500 X50 in the FiST. As others have said both have their pros and cons. If I had to choose, V1 all day. Those arrows are priceless. Laser really does put a damper on things, but it depends where you live. My area is still using KA primarily.

Photo of the Plexi mount I put together in the Fiesta.

Laser jammer are not detectable, and I'm just about positive that jamming light is not illegal in florida. Jamming radio or radar is SUPER EXTREMELY illegal.

I gave up on devices and used my experience and intuition for the last 35+ years and only a few years ago stopped driving fast, sometimes very fast, most all the time and never got a ticket for it, last big one was in the 70's using a detector. Once I finally started running track events I only get it on occasionally and for short bursts where I know it is pretty easy to get away with it, I have fare more fun on track letting it all hang out. I probably have 100k miles doing 100 MPH and faster but just did it where not much chance of being caught but also slowed down in areas I should be responsible in and or knew to expect being watched for.

I was thinking about this last night at work and (ya slow night) and I was going over the number of tickets I got over my 40 years of legal driving out of the 1/2 dozen or so I got only once no Twice did I get stopped for speeding and once I got a ticket and the other time the Michigan County boy rolled up to my window and ask the famous "Sir do you know why I stopped you today?" to which I replied Well I was kinda rolling pretty fast through there where you was me so I think I might have benn a wee bit over the limit (where I was was a 55 I was only rolling 65ish towing a single place atv trailer with my Yamaha Grizzly atv on it driving and 91 Pontiac Gran Prix) After my reply he leans down and say "Sir you are the 6th or 7th person I stopped today and you are the only one that didn't try to lie to me." after a little info exchange where I was going who I am and running the tags on the car he came back and said have a nice day and remember its only 55mph here have a nice day..
The rest of my tickets came from doing stupid stuff when young and dumb(er) running red lights reckless driving in a parking lot. and my fave Following to closely (on a off duty asshat the pulled out in front of me and brake checked me then called his buddies to ticket me!!) after that I played nice and set cruise at a comfortable 5 over OR what ever the traffic is moving at to stay out of the way...

Oh ya the Gist of my rambling is I have NEVER owned a radar or laser detector and prolly never will. but thats just me.. I like the rabbits that have them and clear a path for me though :) not being a Smart ass just how my head works we all need a rabbit from time to time ...

I may be the slowest driver with a radar detector. I have had a few tickets and my insurance rate was not good. So I got the detector to help me keep my speed down, especially when it goes off.

I'd sell mine if a buyer came around :)
