Running mtune with injen intake? Different parts for different tune?

Hi, I know there are lots of people running AP with non-Cobb parts. I'm wondering who is running mtune with non-Mountune parts? I'm looking for more sound out of an intake, but I want to run the mtune for warranty reasons. I figure I could use an Injen intake and easily switch it out for the original airbox, but the important part is having an ECU that would stay under warranty cuz you can't just remove that. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

I highly doubt changing the intake would make a big enough difference to cause anything, they're both similar designs. Warranty wise it might but since i never really intended on keeping mine intact it's something i'm not up on. Someone else will surely pop in who is more into the warranty side of things and give you more info

Thanks for the input. Also, is there such thing at 'needing' a tune? I know you'll get more output out of any mod with a proper tune, but is it bad for your engine to not have a tune and have an intake? I've heard that adding mods and not tuning can be harmful, not just hampering output. And I've also heard that the ECU can "learn" from mods. Eg, you add an intake and get some gains at first but then the ECU starts adapting and negates the point of getting an intake. Thoughts? Anyone?

You can run an intake without a tune and it won't harm your engine.

As rooSTer mentioned you don't need a tune for an intake. But as for your question of "needing a tune" once you start getting more in depth with mods that change your air/fuel intake and expelling you'll need a tune, your computer can only react to changes made so far and it could throw off your afr to a dangerous level

These engine/ECU's are pretty versatile. Outside of a downpipe I don't think the ECU will have any issues. Obviously you'll see more with a tune, but that's true for an otherwise stock setup as well.

I agree. I think you could throw everything at it and it would still be fine ( short of a turbo ). Catless downpipe with de-fouler, catback, intake, intercooler, charge pipes... I don't think it will ever put its self in a bad spot. But like everyone else said, the difference between that kind of modded car with a tune and one without a tune would be HUGR HUGE HUGE. Not that the car would hurt its self, it would just run far below its potential.
