Tire choice on 17x8 Tarmacs

Looking into wheels and tires, I plan on getting 52 Tarmacs and was wondering what size tire to get. The smallest sidewall I'd go is a 40 since the roads where I live are pretty bad. 215/40? If so what's the stretch?

Edit: I plan on running BC Coilovers

Thanks!

You can do 225/40/17's or larger on 17x8's. Federal RS-RR would be a great choice at that size

edit: sorry RS-RR are 215/40/17, and 235/40/17 and you could use either one on a 17x8

Any 225/40 tires? I'm having a time an a half finding anything in that size. And I was informed that a 235 would rub, even in OE suspension.

ran 215/40/17 when I had them and it worked fine and allows you to still go low on coilovers without rubbing. 205 would work too. Most 205's are rated for a 7-8" wide wheel. These wheels are pretty close to flush with the fender so I wouldnt go with a 235, especially if you plan on lowering it. They are over an inch wider than a 205/40 (going based on a s. drive).

The RS-RR's run a size large, so you can get the 215/40/17's and they will run more like a 225. Should work really well for you

Yes, sadly ONLY full-on road race (00-40 tread wear) slicks are ALL that is made in that size, otherwise they'd be on my 17x8 1.2s as we speak. [:(]

Exactly what I have on mine, and as long as you can handle the 'mudder tire' singing on the highway, an excellent choice as far as grip vs. cost, and aesthetics go. [:)]

Pay attention to section width listed for certain tires. Not all 215s are 215. 7.5 inch section width on a 17x8 with 40mm ET is close to max for not rubbing on a lowered fiesta st.

Section width, or TREAD width??

The RS-RRs are a 7.7" TREAD width, but an 8.5" SECTION width.
You are claiming that they MUST rub on a 42ET 17x8, with ~1" drop?? [dunno]
(They do NOT at all, under ANY scenarios, currently at factory ride height.)

You are right. I was typing one thing and meaning another. Tread width is what I was looking for.
