Looking into wheels and tires, I plan on getting 52 Tarmacs and was wondering what size tire to get. The smallest sidewall I'd go is a 40 since the roads where I live are pretty bad. 215/40? If so what's the stretch?
ran 215/40/17 when I had them and it worked fine and allows you to still go low on coilovers without rubbing. 205 would work too. Most 205's are rated for a 7-8" wide wheel. These wheels are pretty close to flush with the fender so I wouldnt go with a 235, especially if you plan on lowering it. They are over an inch wider than a 205/40 (going based on a s. drive).
Exactly what I have on mine, and as long as you can handle the 'mudder tire' singing on the highway, an excellent choice as far as grip vs. cost, and aesthetics go.
Pay attention to section width listed for certain tires. Not all 215s are 215. 7.5 inch section width on a 17x8 with 40mm ET is close to max for not rubbing on a lowered fiesta st.

The RS-RRs are a 7.7" TREAD width, but an 8.5" SECTION width.
You are claiming that they MUST rub on a 42ET 17x8, with ~1" drop??
(They do NOT at all, under ANY scenarios, currently at factory ride height.)
