Is our high pressure fuel pump actuated via a lobe on one of the cams like the GM LNF motor is?

Yes sir. We have 3 lopes like the fost. The 2.3L motors have 4 lobes. (Cheap shot) 2.0L vw turbo motors have 2 1/4 lobes, lol ( VW's have issues in that area).

The bigger question I have is.... Can the rest of the valve train handle such a drastic change ?
For instance.... Adding a cam to a LS1 GM V8 isn't as simple as a $400, lol. Its a $400 cam and $400 of other stuff to let you use said $400 cam, lol. Dohc 4 bangers tend to handle up rated cams pretty well, but I doubt their stage4 cam is going to be effective with stock springs, retainers etc.
[MENTION=3178]maperformance[/MENTION] mentioned we have very mild cams since "ECO"boost was still meant for economy and low end torque/response mostly. I've never claimed to be a cam scientist, so... Hopefully someone with a degree in cam-oligy can enlighten us on what some of these cams may or may not do...

Stage 2 Piper BP285 have a larger increase in lift and duration for added top end Power


These are the ones I would go with for a street car. I'm interested in picking up a set for myself and trying them out. Would be nice to get some tuning done with upgraded cams to see how it effect VTC and HDFX.

All are a sizable upgrade, but these fit best for what I would be looking to do with our R&D vehicle!

I put the stage 2 equivalent cams in my '11 Fiesta SES.
It was a great upgrade.


BTW, they are still in it.
Someone got a good used car.

That's what I would be wondering too.. Can the rest of the valve train handle the change. And if so, how long and how reliable. I would be interested in a full valve train upgrade package if I was going to go as far as changing cams

Mazdaspeed motors also use a cam to drive the fuel pump. Seems to be the most common way for DI motors to step up pressure to the injectors.

As long as the lift isn't too bad and cause spring bind they'll be ok. I would be more worried about saturation with that much duration

The stage 2 cam has 0.040 more valve lift than stock. Stage one has 0.027. General rule of thumb is to not go more than 0.020 extra lift with a stock valve train

Hmm I wonder if throwing in a stage one with say a MR230 tune would in crease gains. Obviously you would not be able to retune the car with that route but just thinking out loud for the people that did choose that path.

I wonder of those cams would work well with the pumaspeed ported head. Hmm. What am I talking about, I can't afford that.
