v dyno results whoosh short ram intake with whoosh v3 intercooler vs short ram with stock intercooler vs stock intake and stock intercooler

for those curious,

all pulls were done in very similar ambient temps, 2 of the pulls were done on the same day. im e30 tuned with dizzy.

green line- stock intercooler with stock intake

red line- stock intercooler with whoosh short ram intake (you will see here how much quicker the turbo spools and how much more torque there is down low. im seeing an additional 12-15 wheel torque from 2500-3700. then the air temps in the engine compartment really start to heat up and the short ram starts pulling in that hot air, and since the stock intercooler already cant keep up and is already heatsoaking, the additional hot air you are pulling in makes it even worse. you see will the stock intake overtake it, and from 4500 up to redline, the stock intake actually makes an additonal 10 wheel horsepower and 10 wheel torque)

blue line- whoosh v3 intercooler with whoosh short ram (because of the whoosh v3 intercooler, it no longer matters that the short ram intake is pulling in hot air, at 3300 rpms the car is making 30 wheel torque over the stock intercooler and stock intake. and once you reach 4500, the short ram intake is no longer a hinderance, as the v3 can easily keep up with the cooling. keeping the charge air temps right at ambient regardless of the hot air the short ram is pulling in)


what does this tell us?

if you have a short ram intake with a stock intercooler, you are effectively trading top end power for low end torque and spool. and its about an even trade off. gaining power down low and losing up top.

however if you have an upgraded intercooler, your intake will really come alive this is really what you want to short for
