Welcome! My previous car was a '95 Geo Metro. Drove that thing for over a decade and never had a problem. Just replaced normal wear parts. 40 mpg. Slow as molasses, but still fun to drive and super cheap to own. I called it the "chick magnet," because it was anything but. I've always preferred small cars. The FiST is a hoot, and Road & Track agrees. https://www.fiestastforum.com/threads/road-track-20-greatest-cars.32154/
It's a pleasure to see someone your age still driving and having fun with it. You're my new role model. Rock on!

Today I had an appointment with my geriatrician and I drove there and back with the ESC completely off. The difference in the feel of the car is subtle. More noticeable is the change in the way I drive the car. Theoretically I should drive more carefully because the safety is off, so to speak. But I'm driving more freely, probably because the car is more responsive. Nothing crazy, though; don't expect to read my obituary any time soon.

Seems you're having fun with the car just like we are with the Transit Connect. we've tuned the suspension to make the van more agile and responsive. Not saying you should do the same but you're a bit older than I.
