2014, he says it started happening after a recent service and now he's selling the car as-is for 5500 cuz he doesn't want to repair it.

Heh in one of the pics (looks like he's on the street), there's a few issues: the tpms light is on, the CEL is on, and the heat gauge is pegged... I'm going to guess that Typhoon is right and it's a coolant issue. If you're familiar with working on cars and want a project, seems like a decent price - I'd probably make a cash offer for less and see how desperate they are to sell it.

Edit: Also if you're just looking to get into the platform for as cheap as possible, you can sell the Recaros for around $1k.

White smoke in my experience has always been a blown headgasket. So yes coolant in the combstion chamber is most likely the cause.

Head gasket. Only question is how hot he ran it after the coolant loss and did he warp it or crack it.

I'd like to see what the oil looks like, if it's milk chocolate with extra creme that the potential for a cracked cylinder resulting in a blown head gasket is likely. The way I would approach this car would be as one needing an engine. In that case start looking for Ford Escape 1.6 ecoboost engines to get a grasp on what a replacement will cost.

A quick search turned up Escape 1.6 turbo engines from $900-$1500
