the oblong thing. Its only on that one side

Its essentially just a clear bra or whatever you like to call it. It just helps prevent scratches because that's a common spot for dirt and debris to fling up. On my car I have some tire fling and rock chips on that area lol

I did think this tbh I just got confused with why it’s only on the one side

Probably had bodywork on the other side and didn't put one on after painting. Or they just forgot at the factory because it was teatime.
