What's up with the vents?

Is it just me or does the car insist on blasting cold air (in winter and cold conditions) in your face for a full 10 seconds before finally selecting the chosen mode after turning the system on?

Seems like it's just lazy programming on the heater vent control circuitry. The vents must rest in top vent mode. I just don't see why it takes so long.

It's most annoying in cold weather when you are forced to manually cycle between normal heat through the upper vents and defrosting the windshield. When coming from defrosting and switching to vents again you get blasted with ice cold air for far longer than necessary.

I swear I can hear the AC compressor come on (idle RPM change) when hitting the left side auto button in a situation that warrants only heat.

Am I the only one?

iso, I'm glad you asked the question. I thought maybe I just couldn't figure out how to use the controls.

It doesn't seem right that cold air would blast out for several seconds before switching over. Very unpleasant when it's alraedy cold in the car.

Hopefully someone can explain exactly what's going on with it.

I should have been more clear. It seems like the compressor runs if I just hit "auto" when not in defrost mode. For example when ambient is 40 and interior temp is set to 70. It could just be increased blower motor load that's causing the RPM change though.

Hey! Anything lower than 60 is cold to me. One of the reasons I live in Texas.

It's all the way down in the 40's this week... Brrr!!!

Lol 40s. I like you. [clap]
Hey man, not everyone is a Snowman like you Canadians. You guys up in Canadia wearing your shorts when it snows and stuff...
(I'm from Puerto Rico, anything less than 75F is cold to me).

Also, to keep on topic, I too am put into discomfort whenever I start the heater only to get cold air blasted on my already cold hands during the winter.

So you can use heat to defrost the windshield. I've always wondered why it only used cold air to de-fog the windshield. I had no idea you had to wait.

Hi guys,

If you're planning on heading to your dealer to have this looked at, let me know. I can loop in your customer service managers.

Thanks Meagan. If we're all seeing identical behavior I doubt it's something the local dealer can correct. It would likely require a firmware reflash on the comfort control module or worse, a component replacement. Neither of which are likely, unfortunately.

Thanks though!

I have been keeping my on foot and defrost with like two bars for the fan speed with the recirc off. Once it warms up I crank the speed. Doing this stopped the crazy cold air in the face. Got use to doing this once it got cold.

I also have been using the defrost (the left one, not the mega-defrost) and lower cabin until it heats up, then switching to the dash vents, but it still takes a couple of seconds to change. It feels as if the damper which directs the air just takes a while to move.

It's been relatively warm here (20's and 30's / 53 on x-mas), but some 0000's next week.

And I crank it on max hot for a while as picking a warm temp doesn't quite do it until the cabin is already warm.

No problem!

Offer still stands for you and anyone else if you guys need/want it in the future. :)
