I just recently purchased an ATP GT2554 and will be installing it soon. Mainly I'm waiting to get a blow off valve and figure out tuning. Who would you guys recommend? Like stock turbo tunes, I know each has their own benefits, but want to know what people are thinking with tunes and this particular turbo. I will also run some slots with E85 (E30) mix.

Input and opinions appreciated. [wrenchin]

When it comes to big turbos, I always say go with Russ DHM. He sells big turbos including the ATP GT2554, and he tunes them. Also tunes the fastest FiST's on this forum. Just my .02.

DHM has an option you're going to like if you're looking at a 2554. Check out the Cyborg thread.

Problem is, Isaac, he already has the ATP. Don't know if Russ has a trade in program...[dunno]

I grabbed my ATP GT2554 for a steal, so I have no plans of getting rid of it.

Apologies to the OP. I missed the first words "I recently purchased." Missed, selective reading, IDK. But, it didn't register in my conscience.

Either way, it looks like DHM may be the way to go. I was also considering Tune+ since he has a steal of a deal with $300 lifetime tuning. Stratified is also good but almost $400 for a tune.

Yeah, I went with Adam Tune+ because at the time he was $250 lifetime which is pretty damn hard to beat. Even at $300 it's a great deal especially if you keep adding parts to your build. I've also used other tuners with varying degrees of success.

After speaking with Adam at Tune+, I will probably be going that route. He specifically mentioned getting a new actuator which solves a lot of the spool problems these have. I will most definitely be doing that, I don't want to remove the turbo later on just to get it right.

I would definitely upgrade the wastegate. Especially since you don't know what the current one is rated at.

Sorry to revive this but I've had the 54r some months now and installed a turbosmart upgraded WGA at the time of installation, I usually hit 20psi by 3400-3600ish depending. Suggested it as a solution with Adam before installation as he expressed spool was an issue with some other atp kits. At the time, he had said that it wasn't proven and we could give it a shot. And for 160 bucks I said why not. Is recommend it. Been pretty fantastic IMO as far as spool and low end grunt.

That's in a 3rd gear 2500-7k pull for a log. Not sure if that matters. It also had problems holding boost up too according to adam and with the turbosmart I peak 25, hold 23-24 4k to redline instead of 20. I don't disagree that the manifold adapter could be robbing some power but my tuner and a few other individuals said it wouldn't be cost effective to change.

That still isn't great. I think the problem truly lies in the manifold adapter/manifold itself
How do like your precision setup? Where do you spool at if you don't mind me asking? I'm considering making the switch to deadhook for tuning in the spring.

Well, know how you said your 2554 spools 20psi at 3400-3600? My pte 4831, which is a journal bearing turbo btw, hits 20psi around the same Rpms.. 3800 the latest. But it also has 380whp. Pulls hard to 29psi and stays there to redline. The powerband is almost identical to DHM 360r kit which features a gtx2860r.

Russ is a great tuner and I def recommend a Deadhook turbo kit if you're looking to go bigger turbo.

That's awesome man. Glad to hear it, was genuinely curious. I got this kit cheap so couldn't pass it up and only had goals of 280tq/290hp around 300/300 so it suits my needs. Mostly autox and daily it so I wasn't looking for huge numbers.
Might go meth as I run out of fuel at 290.

That's cool. I'll have to post a datazap sometime to show how it spools
