We could discuss how still a lot of heat is dispersed from the stalk too but what matters is that earlier in this thread they tested actual housing temps and they were well over 100 degrees with the stock rear caps on. Last I checked, that's plenty warm enough to keep snow from sticking and not melting. :)
Precisely under what conditions? I've had snow stick to the lenses with my halogen bulbs during extreme winter storms in my prior vehicle after traveling highway. This was heavy wet snow. Under average circumstances it's not going to be an issue. Note what was said in the original quote: extreme.

So I'm saying it won't be much of a difference over halogen, really, it's a non-issue, the housings stay nice and warm. Definitely worth seeing better 99.9% of the time over possibly having to wipe your lenses off maybe a little more often in extreme weather, which I still doubt you'd have to. Otherwise, this thread is about actual LED performance and selection, if you have some other extreme criteria in why you are choosing to not go with LED's, then obviously that's your choice but not really something to argue here. I've presented facts that show the housings in actual testing hit 150 degrees. You could just choose one of the shorter "hotter" sets, tuck the driver module into the housing and use the rear cover as well for the higher temps you want or not, up to you.

a little off topic still trying to find an led for my regular fiesta sedan I checked bulbfact but nothing specifically says h11b (yes it is very different than the h11 and different than the h1 as well). wife loves the white light over the stock anybody know other places I can check. I tried amazon and they kept sending h11 not h11b so I returned 3 led sets so far (even though they said h11b on the ads. smh [sad])

its a custom rig. nothing super special. i usually use chrome. firefox when chrome has issues.

i haven't tried them, but have seen that they require trimming which i dont want to do. which is why i wanted the 2strokes to work. tiny and require no trimming.
Also, the "trimming" is just the inner part of the ring on a headlight assembly that is $80 to replace, it's really not a big deal, the stock covers go right back on if you wanted to go that route... in fact I want to try the Nineo's next myself to see if it's a max lux thing or actual LED design since they are SO highly, if they actually work well with our housings, it's worth a touch of trimming just a small section of the excess inner ring that's not needed. Just food for thought, we'll see if the guy with Nineo's already can post a dark street shot first to see if the kaleidoscope is bad or not.

Hmmm, sounds like it's the same bulb but different connector? I wonder if they make a conversion cable...

no its definitely h11b it is a round bottom that is metal there is no pigtail connector to them in some ways its like the high beam we use in the st but instead of being a straight prong it is a pair of circular disks with the two prongs sticking out sideways. ill get on the picture maybe it can be swapped to a h7 like u say

Thanks man, a shot on the street will show what I'm looking for, if you can get one of those too. :)

OK, yeah, I've looked them up and only a couple of really expensive options in LED, I hear they are really rare in general... Might have to try some upgraded halogens, I saw a few options in halogen that are reasonable.

To measure properly, you must use surface probes. Infrared readings won't work. One of the reasons LEDs are so much more efficient is due to the fact that they don't have to get a strip of metal wire hot enough to glow... to the tune of nearly 5400F. It is a fact that LEDs come no where close to those temperatures. Heat is an express enemy of LEDs and is why they use fans and heat sinks to expel such heat from the rear.

Well, exactly, good points... I know it's a long thread but we covered this and long story short, I am proponent of plenty of air flow with no rear covers at all... I'm just saying there are ways to keep the housing nice and warm too so I truly feel it won't make a big enough of a difference in housing temps that snow would build up significantly faster than using halogens. But if that's how you feel, great, I understand at least where you are coming from, it was brought up before too and some people simply don't want to risk problems with that.

Damn, that sucks it such a weird little used format... You might have to ante up and try THESE which aren't cheap at $115 a set, ouch!

They actually look very decent, it has the CREE XHP50 chips with the dome clear chip covers to simulate halogen bulbs even more... Honestly, prob will be pretty close to the TechMax overall, it's just that they would be half the price in regular H11. Edit: Actually they are $69 in regular H11, I'd like to try them, maybe I'll ask Blaise to send those to me if I send him the Morimoto's back, hmmm.

pics of the morimoto 2stroke 2.0.

i just replaced one of the bulbs with a techmax bulb. side by side you can tell it’s bluer then the morimoto, but not by much imo. it’s essientally the same size as well, the heat sink might be .5-1mm wider, but it’s such a small difference, and there’s more then enough clearance in the housing that it doesn’t matter. the beam pattern looks better and there is less of the kaleidoscope effect. i’ll get a few pics tomorrow.
