Pretty sure I'm not retarded, but... can you turn the center screen *off*?

I don't have the best night eyes, and even with the brightness all the way down I find the center screen brightness intrusive. I rarely listen to the radio, use nav, etc. and I would probably gut all that stuff out if I could, but I can't, so... can you turn it all the way "off"? In most of my other cars its just a prolonged hold of the power button, but that's not doing it.

If this is a dumb question, sorry, been so busy recently I've been brain farting hard. Enthusiastically answered a call this morning while wearing deep-insertion headphones and hammered one completely into my ear canal, so I'm a little "off".

At least on the Sync 3 you can: Settings / Display (2nd page) / Turn Display Off

I'll give it a poke. It seems a little long-winded for something I'd want to do often :|
It is for us Fiesteros, maybe make a cardboard blockout :p.

According to the manual, some vehicles do have a dedicated "Disp" button:

Using Your Bezel Controls Depending on your vehicle and option package, you may also have these controls on your instrument panel:
• Power: Switch the audio system on and off.
• VOL: Control the volume of playing audio.
• Seek and Tune: se as you normally would in audio modes.
• Eject: Eject a CD from the audio system.
• SOURCE or MEDIA: Press repeatedly to advance through available media modes.
• SOUND: Press to access the Sound menu where you can adjust sound and other audio settings.
• 1-6: Press and hold to store or press to select an AM, FM or SIRIUS memory preset. See Audio System (page 254).
• DISP: Switch the display on or off. You can also touch the screen to switch the display back on.
• Temperature, fan and climate control buttons: Control the temperature, fan speed or settings of the climate control system. See Climate Control (page 96).

I know it can be done. Don't feel bad, it always takes me a couple minutes to figure it out lol

In need of clarification: it's still too bright when the screen background is black? (just want to make sure it's not set to the white background full-time)

If it’s Sync 2 like mine it goes to a dimmer black grayish screen when the headlights are on. Still kind of bright, I have the gauge/gps brightness down and I can see how it still might be too bright

I find Apple CarPlay stays too bright, so I choose not to use it. I’ve never really been a fan of it anyway. The normal Sync screens work better for me at night.

My wife's old car had a designated screen off button by the shifter. It still didn't turn it off but made the screen black. You could still see some light peeking through but it was good enough. I keep my fiesta screen on night mode. When I use carplay I always toggle back to the sync main menu. Very annoying. I can't get the carplay screen to not be blinding bright.

I’m trying to connect to canbus and log data when I turn the screen off to see if I can program a teensy to give me a screen on/off button on the dash. Long term project, but it annoys enough to try lol

yeah, for me at least. In a lot of my built cars I always wired in a switch to kill all but the gauge cluster lights when building “wiring” “harnesses”

sorry for the quotes when I’m typing on this forum it keeps turning certain terms into links and it’s really annoying :|

Yeah I too saw that option to turn the screen off in the menus. Don't recall whether that was in the standard menus or/and in Diagnostics Mode though.

I was always afraid that they forgot to give us a way to turn the screen back on, and therefore never experimented with it. It would be quite annoying to have to run back to Ford exclaiming, "I turned my screen off and can't turn it back on!" LoL...

I'm on Sync3 version 2.0 or 2.1.

Lol the second you touch the screen it turns back on. Steering wheel controls still work but the screen stays off which is cool lol
