My first car was 64 chevy nova II, second car was 73 plymouth satelite sebring plus. After destroying 2 auto transmissions I decided I should
be driving standards, clutches were cheaper than rebuilt autos.

There were lots of cars in between that were autos. I still love having the control of a manual though.

I'm 69 yo. Started driving in '67 and only manuals until '90 when a freeway gridlock moment in my '89 Crx Si sent me to a 1990 automatic Mustang. Then a financial setback forced me out of a '17 Mustang auto into my '19 FiST. Now I applaud and respect modern automatics, DCT's and even evolved CVT's but my FiST takes me back to my glory days of driving. I love, really LOVE the total driving experience again and hope my left leg stays strong for many, many years!

Pretty sad. As much as I would love having an auto for daily driving, driving customer's vehicles just bores and irritates me. Always wanting the highest possible gear and most blandness. Sadly, I think I wouldn't mind a brand new EB Mustang with an auto and flappy paddles (don't kill me lol). First truck I got passed from my grandpa was an auto (98 S10, kinda miss it). Eventually wanted a manual after my dad taught me stick in his 73 CJ5. He ended up buying a 66 Mustang as a project for us (and eventual graduation/joining the military gift). Not a long list, but own that Mustang still, my uncles 85 RX7 GSL-SE, and finally financed my first car being the reason I joined this forum lol.

Considering a trade in for a Mustang in the future though. Hopefully a HiPo manual in that bright green (grabber lime? maybe convertible too lol). Really hope the economy improves more though, otherwise dreams will only be dreams.

My first car was the 91 Integra. Bought it in 1998 when I was 16 years old. I learned to drive manual in that car. It was way too much fun for a young boy to drive. I definitely received my fair share of tickets, but it totally hooked me on being an engaged driver. I only ever had one automatic car and as soon as I got it, I knew I would be driving a manual in every car after that for as long as I could. The death of the manual and the general public's lack of interest in driving in general is sad to me.

Yeah as you know those are still automatic transmissions, shifted via computer. It's just that the design lends more control to the driver.

Reason I choose manual is historically speaking, properly driven, they're far more reliable, require less maintenance, easier to maintain, much less weight, less space, no heat, and driving it hard has virtually no impact on its life span. The addition of the dual-mass flywheels are however, having a large impact on the last statement; reliability under hard driving. They used to have a distinct advantage with engine wear and fuel efficiency, though that has certainly changed with more modern automatic shi(f)t transmission designs.

These 2 caught my eye as well - as much as I've read that the Solstice/Sky is crap, I'm interested...how was that car?

Also the new Si - I'm reading great things. Are they as good as everyone says?
The Solstice was a lot of fun. I did a few mods including an ECU flash and catback exhaust. I put about 25k miles on it before trading it in.

Loving the Si. I've only racked up about 800 miles on it but have been very impressed with it so far. Once I get around to swapping the all-season tires with summer tires, it should be able to keep up with the FiST. I did fall victim to the Black Friday madness though and placed an order for a MAPerformance quad-tip exhaust a couple of days ago - should have it next week :cool:. Still no mods to the FiST with exception to the drop-in Cobb air filter I installed a few months ago.

If im forced to use it, i want it to be the same as a manual valve body setup in an older car. Where it wont shift unless i say so. Doesnt matter if a computer does it, just as long as im telling it to

The two that stand out to me are the CRX and MR2. Its pretty crazy how those have held onto value lately. Pristine examples of both are selling well on bring a trailer

yeah that crx was fun I had the weird zc motor in it not many had that in there sold it my cousin who totaled it in less than month.
of all though my mr2 I miss dearly I am contemplating selling my fist and trying to find a 93+ model, I got rid of it for my evo but It never felt as fun as the mr2 did. I prefer small cars and the evo felt like a pig in comparison size wise as well I felt like awd was boring and not to knock on fwd but I seem to be falling into the same rut also with the fist.

Welp did a thing today. Proud owner of a '13 FRS (out of the valve spring recall window). This things in great shape: 1 owner, all maint records and no mods and not beat on. Kind of rare for the BRZ/86 twins. This will be my main daily driver now. Tired of putting 70 miles a day on my FiST for my work commute

And how much do you want for that MR2 in the background? Tell me about that car. Dang my neighbor put his out for sale about 10 years ago for $500. Red stickshift with >200k miles but it ran and AC was still cold. Should have bought it, always loved those. Yours looks great.

I think the FiST and FR-S compliment each other quite well. I have the FiST for the power and autox events and FR-S for daily/fun commuting. The FR-S has a much better chassis, it really shows then its purpose built for sportiness. You feel much more connected with the car and honestly I just dont think the FiST comes close on backroads to sheer fun factor.

I wish I could say the MR2 is mine! That photo was taken when I viewed the car this morning so MR2 belongs to the FRS' prev. owner. He has a GTS corolla too.
