There was a guy who rebuilt his entire transmission. He posted a link to his personal blog on here, in his thread about rebuilding it. Link: http://blog.sluggyjunx.com/rebuilding-the-transmission-in-my-2014-ford-fiesta-st/

The whole entire process is in there, he copied the FSM.
Yeah I found the Factory Service Manual a few minutes ago. Looks like we need .14mm of bearing preload.

You mentioned that during all of your install you did not need to shim the races, how did you determine that if there was no end float? I feel like you could figure out that end float = 0mm but you wouldn't be able to determine the positive preload because the diff would be tight with the transmission assembled?

Also, does anybody have an LSD installation kit on hand and can take photos of the bearing part numbers?

Ford got smart and started removing the bearing boxes before shipping them. The first one we did had the boxes and I shouldve taken a picture. The OE number is 96WZ-4220-A

Yeah, unfortunately that part number leads to the equivalent NSK bearing. SKF is the old supplier I guess and are superior bearings. I have an email out to SKF to see if LM29749/Q is the same as LM29749VP.

I was going by the word of the transmission builder who I asked beforehand. He looked at it and said it didn't need them. Like I said though none of these gearboxes make any noise, all work just fine.

It's hard to get good pictures of it still in the packaging -- but here's an attempt.
The cage appears to be brown plastic. View attachment 27824 View attachment 27825 View attachment 27825
I appreciate it! Thank You! I contacted SKF and they confirmed that LM29749VP (Bearing) and LM29711VP (Race) can be interchanged with the above if you want a metal cage instead of the plastic. Both are available on RockAuto for super cheap.

Iā€™ll show my ignorance:
Is a metal cage necessarily better? What is the benefit? Is there a downside to metal?

Biggest concern for me was that SKF rates the plastic cage to 160F which seemed a bit low for the transmission. The bearings in my tranny have metal cages and I want to keep metal cages on the new LSD bearings. That was pretty much the extent of my thinking. I am not sure why Ford includes the plastic units in the LSD install kits. I would assume cost but there may be a real design reason for it. I am choosing to ignore that choice LOL

This thread has been very enlightening. I've gotten quotes for a few shops here in SoCal (including Mountune in Carlsbad). Both >2500. Time to roll up my sleeves I guess!
Did you ever find a shop here in SoCal for the lsd? I'm trying to find a good, trustworthy shop.

I am looking as well. I know that SirSinclair went to shop in the San Diego area that charged like $1200 I think. He has video about in his build thread I believe.
I didn't even know that. Thanks!!! I'm going to have to watch that

In case it helps anyone gauge prices -- early this spring, I had my Quaife LSD installed by a small shop in the Chicago area for ~$1100.
It's a pricey mod, but the results are night and day. The first week I had the car back, I noticed a lot more torque steer (Dizzy Stage 2, 93 Octane)--much more than before I had the LSD installed.
That weekend, I installed a Pierce 2 pt brace and the torque steer was all but gone. It's awesome now. Getting the LSD (and brace) is the best thing I've done to the car by far.
