Hey all, this is a much more negative post than I ever wanted to make about my Fiesta ST ownership experience. I’ve had my ST for just over 2 months and 500 kilometres now and have had nothing but issue after issue with it. Starting with the dealership I bought it from saying they put a new clutch in it yet the car still has issues going into gear. Aside from that, it looks like my APIM module has gone causing horrific parasitic drain. If I jump the car it won’t have any issues for a few weeks until the touchscreen starts acting up and then a few days later it will drain the battery flat. These are the major issues but there have been other more minor things too. I really want to enjoy this car but I dread every time I go to start it praying something else doesn’t break/go wrong. I have lost basically all interest in this car and have no connection to it as I never got the chance to actually enjoy it as a fun daily driver. I’m well aware of the fact that cars break but a 2014 with 67k kilometres on it shouldn’t have this many issues with it. Any advice from anyone with a similar rough start to ownership?

First let me say I'm sorry for your bad luck this is definitely a dealership screwing you over.

I don't know jack about Canada but in America if I bought a used car I don't buy used cars, but just hold on I would write some nasty reviews. I would contact the better Business bureau, I would call a news station that has a consumer advocacy reporter.

Honor and integrity are everything and for a business to say they did something that they obviously did not do gets zero respect. They deserve any negative press they get.

I'm going to give you some advice don't take it the wrong way. Later in life never buy a used car especially through a dealership without a warranty. A dealership that doesn't offer some type of warranty on a vehicle they sell is trash.

Thanks for the input man, appreciate it. I’ve had good experience with this dealer as my dad bought a Transit from the same sales person that sold my the ST, his experience was great. Unfortunately mine was not the same

Well, that sucks. They're so fun when they're working right.
Some people take better care of their cars than others. Sounds like yours wasn't treated well, and you're paying the price.
The APIM can be reset. That's not the end of the problems.

If anyone else lives near Coastal Ford Vancouver do not even think about going there the sales guys I talked to were great but man everything else seems crooked

I'm assuming you've got the paperwork. Make them do their job. Nobody forgets a green FiST.
You might have some legal avenues.

Do you have any consumer advocacy organizations that can help with getting the repairs or at least the car returned? I know here in MA there’s lots of consumer protection laws, AG’s office and NGOs that assist people with problems exactly like this. In fact, the dealer would likely be taking the car back if this situation were happening here as you described.

You can start by looking on your province/territiry website for consumer protection programs/laws. From there you may be redirected to more local orgs that can assist.

July will mark 4 years of ownership for me and I beat the hell out of this car. It has never left me on the side of the road, never overheated, never a check engine light.

I don't care what anybody says because I have the experience of working on them Honda's have problems too. Savagegeese probably the best automotive review channel on YouTube started because of Honda and their transmission problems.

People complain about these cars and the paint peeling off which is not a good thing, but Honda had issues with the paint completely burning off the car gone no paint.

Toyota has lots of issues with engine leaks major ones.

People complain about these cars and the paint peeling off which is not a good thing, but Honda had issues with the paint completely burning off the car gone no paint.

Gotta say SavageGeese is one of my favourite YouTube channels, but yeah I totally agree with you, it’s just so hard to see the other side because of my horrible experience with this car. I don’t even know if I ever could enjoy this car again after all of this
I totally understand. I recently had a home HVAC company burn a bridge with me that I thought was excellent and I recommended many times.

Same here, for over 4 years of ownership, but like you I bought it new, and do also take care of it with maintenance/upkeep.

Any of the small problems I've experienced with this car so far, save for the blend door actuator, and the compass freezing in the touch screen display, have been 200% MY FAULT.
(Mainly, it needing a new battery after just 3 years, when others get 5+ out of the factory Motorcraft, due solely to my listening to the radio with the engine off, and then over-charging the battery on a charger to compensate.)

The paint thing is not a 'small issue', but yes, it's not like every single Nippon/Korean auto manufacturer is without exceptions perfect in that area either. [wink]

My powertrain warranty expires in July of 2022 so I'm going to drive it a lot more this year to see if the transmission bearing goes out that seems to be a kind of common problem.

My sister-in-law's husband is a big car guy had a Honda Civic brand new well the screen went out on it and it took out the AC system with it. He had to turn the car off and turn it back on all cars have problems with their infotainment system that is a fact.
He has a GTI right now and in his own words he said as soon as the warranty expires he is getting rid of it he would never own a Volkswagen without a warranty.


The paint corrosion issue is definitely a problem and I wish Ford would do something about it, but like you said Japanese brands have a lot of issues with that as well. I see a lot of Nissans in my area with paint burnt off the car.
Honda paint burns off the car, Nissan paint burns off the car, Toyota paint burns off the car. I honestly don't think they developed their paints to deal with the UV index in the southeast. Don't even get me started on the headlights turning solid yellow.


Ford is far from perfect please understand I am not defending them at all.

Wife has a gti out of warranty. Most repairs have been milage based failures so far.

Clutch/flywheel and rear main ( done by us in my driveway)
Hpfp replaced in driveway ( super easy btw)
And 4 new injectors and spending a whole day carbon cleaning as it had never been done. Past this its been a champ. It could use a lot more love though. And the previous owners treated it poorly for sure. But its coming around.

Sorry to hear this, sounds like a rough start. Was it the sales advisor or service advisor? I can kind of think how a particular service advisor wouldn't necessarily deal with the particular car, at least the first time you talk to them... but if it was your sales guy, that would be incredible. Did they give you any sort of warranty at all? If yes, just keep at it and push them to sort it out. They should be able to detect parasitic battery drain. Clutch should be diagnosable as well. What other issues have you encountered?

It was a service advisor, they gave me no warranty with it. I’ve had stuff like the blend door but I did that myself in a few mins at work that was easy.
