hello everyone!
my name is anton and i’m new to this forum, i have just bought an st180 after owning a 1.0.

sadly there is a problem
- the radiator fan doesn’t work

i noticed after being stopped in traffic for about 10 mins, smoke started coming from the coolant tank

i’m guessing that this is to do with the recall regarding the coolant tank + sensor, my car has a 1.0 shell and a full st conversion, therefore ford wont do it.

my thinking is that if i buy the egg size coolant tank and replace the temperature sensor with an uprated one to set the fan on earlier will it be okay?

i dont want to go down the dealership route as that’s inevitably a big bill,

thanks guys !

Sound like you need more troubleshooting to figure out why the fan isnt' working. Is it the fan itself? Wiring chaffed somewhere? Bad controller?

I plugged in a diagnostic tool and the following codes came up
P2683-12 - Engine coolant bypass valve control circuit high
P0480-71 - Fan control circuit.

my knowledge of cars isn’t the best so more in depth diagnostics i wouldn’t be able to do, would have to go to my garage

Unfortunately, without firing the "parts cannon" you'll have to figure out how to do some more troubleshooting, or take it to the shop to do so for you. Failure of the fan control circuit could be the fan itself, the relay, the fan control module, a blown fuse. The 2683 code is most likely the result of the overheating. You need to figure out WHY the fan isn't coming on or resign youself to throwing parts at it till it starts working.
