After all major maintenance TBONED

So back in late March my FiST got T-boned on the driver’s side in a work parking lot. Long story short, insurance basically screwed me because of the weird circumstances of the accident (huge construction job site), so I’m kind of on my own here.


It’s a 2014 with about 145k miles. What really stings is that only about four months before the accident I had knocked out all the big preventative maintenance—timing belt, gaskets, blend door actuator, and a bunch of other odds and ends. I had finally gotten the car to where I wanted it mechanically.


The guy who hit me was speeding. Thankfully the engine is fine and the frame wasn’t damaged. It still runs and drives, but the driver’s side fender, wheel well, and suspension took a pretty good hit.


The collision shop here in Boise quoted me around $6k to fix it, and that was a punch to the gut considering I’ve already put well over that into keeping this thing in great shape. It’s paid off, and with what clean FiSTs are selling for these days, I’d honestly rather save this one than go buy another.


Just curious if anyone here has repaired similar damage, gone the DIY route, or found a better way to get one of these back on the road. I’d love to hear what you ended up doing. I’ll throw some pictures up too.

I guess if you could find one that has been rear ended, you could salvage its parts. But in the end is it worth the cost? Plus I am guessing it would require a salvage title.

I would suggest that you take the guy who hit you to the cleaners. A couple of things to think about.

First is the good old Rules of the Road. Basically any vehicle approaching from your Right has the Right of Way. As you were hit on the Left Front it is an absolute that you were on his right and you did have the Right of Way. BTW this dates back to the days of Sailing but those rules have been carried forward to this day and it DOES apply to automobiles. Frankly I don't understand why you got the runaround, it doesn't matter a bit where this happened you had the Right of Way. Another call to his insurer is in order, pay up or face the expensive consequences.

Second you have the right to file a Lawsuit to anyone who has injured you either physically or finacially. While this isn't in Small Claims territory you should be able to find local attorney that will make this person's life miserable. In addition in real Court you can go after ALL of his Assets. His Truck, Equity in his Home, and the shoes he wears to Court. You can also sue for the legal fees you have paid to bring this suit and that includes the Lawyers costs.

Personally I would suggest a somewhat friendly phone call to inform him of your plans should he refuse to pay for the damage he has done. If he tells you to "F" off then tell him you'll be proceeding without any thought of giving him a break. And do make sure to tell him about that cracked rib and the soreness in your neck.
