just how bad is the cracked cylinder wall issue with the 1.6?
Let me start off by saying i know our motors are open deck, and also have coolant slits between the cylinders further weakening the cylinder walls. And we also have pretty weak cooling. This is part of the reason i have done the following things.
1) only run my motor on ethanol to cool the cylinders
2) upgraded intercooler
3) reputable tuner
4) keep the tune safe with no knock and OAR at -1
5) will be upgrading my radiator as well
6) got a later model fist that "fixed the cooling issue"
so i guess that leads me to my question, how much of a difference do these things make? and how bad is the cylinder wall cracking issue?
