Suppose someone was stupid enough to drop a roughly 4 inch long curved DIY metal coathanger inside the casing while trying to check the gearbox oil level, is there gearbox going to be destroyed if the coathanger couldn't be retrieved??
Better be getting a telescopic magnet * before that turns into a 2k coat hanger

If you can’t get it out you might find a rare earth magnet (as strong/big as possible) to put on the bottom of trans. If you’re going to drive it to a mechanic.

Well i brought a bendable telescopic magnet and went fishing but it was impossible.
I rang around local garages including transmission specialists, explained the situation about my stupidity, and am looking at atleast £300 to have the transmission taken off, stripped down and back on. Plus a long wait, all the local garages seem to be busy for weeks.
So i decided bugger it, a reconditioned gearbox from Pumaspeed is around £300 plus the fitting, and decided to refill the gearbox oil and go for a good drive. So far no issues.
What im hoping is that it is stuck to the large magnet at the bottom of the transmission. It's right underneath the fill hole so HOPEFULLY it's on top of it! A mate of mine has put me in contact with a mechanic he knows and I'll see what he can do

It should be implied that you'll have to drain it, before searching it with a lighted bore scope. I checked and there are rather cheap ones that connect to cell phone charging ports. You have two points of access, that being the fill and drain plugs.

Probably be alright though. But it's that "probably" part that's the issue, when the consequences of not being alright are expensive; compared to the little bit of time and money to get it out.
