55 here but I feel and act 30. Big into bicycling since retiring from the Army many moons ago, it keeps me fit (Physically AND mentally, lol). I have always been into cars and have built several hot rods from the frame up. I thinned the herd and just kept one, a 67 that’s a high winding monster. The FiST was a total departure for me. I was looking for a fun, sporty, easy to mod commuter instead of piling the miles on my F150 SuperCrew dailying it with just me in it. Research led me to the ST and man, I do enjoy this car!
Same here with cycling, took it up as a competitive sport when I was 14 (65 now), and it's even the actual physical/endurance sport which I am into, and follow at the professional level as well (could not give a crap about all of the 'go to' 'Murricun stick and ball sports LOL).

Is the '67 'high winder' a 1st gen Z28, or a H.O. 289 'stang??

It's actually a very unoriginal 67 Mercury Comet 202, pushing just under 500 h.p., N/A. 331 stroker, balanced, fully forged, roller cam, AFR aluminum heads, 4bbl (Edel 650), T-5 (5 speed), full calvert rear suspension with a 4:10 rear gear. It's is the last survivor in my stable. All others were moved along lol. If the FiSt gets beat up I can go get granpa ;)

never understood why people think tastes in cars changes with a calendar date. I've always likes small, fast cars, and now that I'm 49, I'm nervously waiting to turn 50 and see if that suddenly changes.
It won't. I'm about to turn 75 and grin every time I get in my FiST.

I think Ford thought it would be a young enthusiast's car.
Im retired Army, still work on a Army base and we have a British liaison officer. We were heading out on a joint bike ride one day and he saw my car and said “interesting vehicle choice, in England that’s what all the kids drive”. I think it appeals to the young guys, obviously because it’s affordable, sporty and easy to mod, which is exactly why it appealed to me as well.

Just turned 73 in June. Had a great conversation with an LAPD patrol last year. They were laughing when they saw me driving my car. They asked "Is it yours?" Then they asked "Is it as fast as the licence plate says?" I replied, "Yes, when you guys aren't around". More laughter and then I said, "I'm LA's oldest teenager". They drove off laughing!

^^^So you most definitely remember (and maybe saw run live, 'in anger' back then) the Mk1, and Mk2 Escort RS rally cars when they were NEW, correct?!

Originally from Wales and I was back there a few years ago and was invited to go and watch a rally in South Wales, about 40 miles from my home town. There is NOTHING like listening to rally prepped Mk1's and 2's at full chat in the forests, with the engine and exhaust sound echoing through the trees! Had a chance to buy a Mk1 Ford Escort 2000, brand new in 1974 for 2,000 pounds if I was posted to Germany, but I went to Hong Kong instead! White with the blue stripe! Later on when I was back in Germany, bought a used Mk1 Escort Mexico and when I was re-posted back to Germany I bought a Vauxhall Chevette HS 2300. I've had a few great cars but the ST is the most fun one so far, even at 73!

^^^Yes, that is about the ONLY time that GM was involved in rallying at all. [:(]

There is an ARA competitor (Seamus Burke) who is using a Mk2 Escort in American rallying, in the Open 2WD class, and they just won that class at NEFR.

But he put a built/cammed Mustang 3.7 24 valve V-6 in it, and I believe it has a sequential gearbox (don't know the brand) as well.

It must have CRAZY overlap on the cams, because this thing was spitting flames every time he backed off the throttle, or even shifted!

It sounds pretty good for a V-6, but yeah, I wish he put a Millington in it instead, but those are $$$$$$$$$$$ as you know. [wink]

Feel better knowing that I'm in the 2nd largest group at 21.7% but not surprised by the younger group being much higher at 40.9% as almost all that I see around here in compact/sub-compact cars around here look very young.

I was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard and had a similar conversation during my last drill. My section deputy, who is a major, was driving me to a meeting in his Tesla Model S. We were chatting about the Tesla when he mentioned that his wife's getting a long range version as the current one can't make a round trip to/from her work in a single charge. I told him that I recently bought a Fiesta and that it was fun to drive and has great gas mileage. He gave me a funny look and asked, "A Fiesta? Isn't that a cheap car what privates and specialists drive? Isn't that too slow for you?" I replied that it's a turbo version with a decent amount of kick and that I'll give him a ride in it once I do the turbo swap.

I think you meant to say, "Give him the ride of his life" and scare the crap out of him!

I’m 56 and all banged up. Not the easiest car for me to get in and out of, the suspension is too stiff and if I’m not careful my right foot can make my neck feel broken. Well guess what, I don’t care. I’ve had to drive a big stupid pick up dragging a tractor around for too long. My car is my reward and I love it

I hate it when I see an old person and then realize we went to high school together.
That's funny, that has happened to me. Although one time it happened it wasn't quite as bad as I thought. I was going to a high school reunion, and when I walked up I saw all these people that looked vaguely familiar, but I didn't know who any of them were, and they all looked really really old. Then I found out it was another high school reunion just ending of a class of people from our same school but 10 years older.
