Anyone got info on using the FoST intercooler on the FiST? Seems like it might be a worth while and cheap upgrade.
I have seen posts in the past where this was discussed, but nothing from anybody actually doing it. For the price of a new or even used Focus ST intercooler, it sure sounds like people would be trying this out. I have one sitting in my garage, but it is attached to my wife's Escape (Kuga) 2.0L EcoBoost and I am sure she won't let me play with it.

Siestarider, great info on the weights! The factory one sure is a feather compared to the others. I would guess the Mountune and Cobb weigh about the same.

The Cobb has really fragile fins, accidentally brushing a finger against external rows will bend edges over, am guessing great for heat transfer, maybe not as durable against small debris impact as OEM. Mishi has stronger fins than OEM or Cobb, and shorter space between rows, plus 12 bars vs 8, hence the weight.

I am mounting the Cobb for testing, will probably add a bug screen, we have some big bugs here in S Fla, would hate to spend time straightening fins with a pick after bug encounters.

As usual, changing more than one variable at a time, shame shame.

As an FYI, the fins on my Airtec look untouched after about a month of driving, they seem pretty stout.

thinking of getting the Mishimoto J-Line IC... Anyone disagree with me making this decision? Trying to buy my IC this weekend just having a really tough time deciding on which one. I also wanted to get an upgraded charge pipe kit. Was looking at COBB's but man its pricey. Any other alternatives for the hard pipe kits?

Well....that's it. Got the Mishimoto IC. Should be here hopefully by next week, wish me luck. Now I'm left wondering if I should even bother getting a charge pipe kit. I was looking into getting this http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=ATP-FIE-004&Category_Code=FIE

Is this kit the same as the COBB and Mountune pipe kits? Not very knowledgeable when it comes to tuning cars but getting there. I'm thankful to have such a great community to back me up. Thanks guys.

You should be happy with the Mishi IC. I changed the charge pipe to get rid of the donut thingy.

Awesome, glad I bought it then. Which charge pipe kit did you get? Do you think this would be good enough?

I really don't wanna spend the money for the COBB/Mountune ones..
That pipe should be fine, the general consensus is you don't need to change the pipe unless you change/mod the turbo. Getting rid of the donut, hose and a couple of clamps can't hurt.

Did not know this...Sticking with stock charge pipes(for now) when I get the Mishi IC. Thanks Sekred!

Some more data around my Airtec FMIC upgrade.

Here is a 4th and 5th gear to about 5000rpm hwy WOT pull.

It was 95F out at the time.

Charge temp
Start - 100F
End - 105F

Intake temp
Start - 98.5F
End - 97.5F

This pretty much agrees with what I've been seeing with Cobb's FMIC as well in similar ambient temp conditions currently here in the SoCal desert....On a few recent back to back WOT pulls from 2500rpm up to 6300rpm saw charge temps only raise 6 deg max over intake temp by the end of each of the runs...Also really nice to see the Cobb FMIC apparently has a very short recovery time between pulls...

So I picked up a stock focus St intercooler today. Any suggestions on what else I should pick up before I start trying to install it?

All I have is my xcal 3 and my ultra Guage. The ultra Guage has no logging ability and i have yet to find charge air temp post intercooler on it.
