Last Sunday I took the Fiesta to button willow for its first track event.
My track car is my 91 hardtop mr2 gen3 turbo(330whp). And i have never tracked a FF before
Drove my buddies FFs before but only for one or two hot laps just for giggles.
Let me just start by saying this car was built right! Feels alittle weird on higher speed corners. Pretty sure a stiffer sway bar would make the car feel more stable but the stock suspension is great. All the kids I track with own integras, civics, and some BMW. Their cars have years of tuning for the track and talk a little mess about my Fist. That all ended when they couldnt keep up with my car in corners. My fastest time was 2.16, in 100 degree weather. I think on this setup I could break into 2:10s
The only bad thing and reason why I didn't was because the car would overheat after one hot lap so I would have to pit to let the temps cool. My AP was reading temps exceeding 235. I blame the small radiator and single fan. Th IC blocking most flow also doesn help. It was a hot day at button willow with temps of 100 but I don't think a car should ever over heat if brand new and proper coolant. My 91 mr2 has never overheated, So this was a little upsetting. I would of thought twice befor buying it if I would have known of this issue.
Another issue that happens my first two sessions was my IC coupler kept blowing off. This was when the day was a lot cooler (80 degrees) so I put a t-bolt th second time and the issue stopped, but my next session outside temps were 100.
The mods on my st is just full bolt ons and tune to open up the car a little.
Levels FIC, Cobb ap, fswerks intak, catless dp, mrt CBE.
Stock tires and wheels.
