I couldn't agree with you more. Besides all that they are trying to rape me on the cost of replacement. $2,500 is just plain silly.
880 + 1500 comes out to $2,380. Is the remainder tax or something? Is the $2500 or $2,380 AFTER their 20% off discount, or before?

Either way, I would try to negotiate and ask for 30%. If you have to pay, you might as well have them help you as much as possible. I know it's not the 50% you wanted, but 30% would be a lot better than nothing (and certainly better than 20%).

Or, you could go aftermarket, but I've been a stickler for OEM stuff so I always suggest it first.

The $2,500 is a round up. It does not include the 20% discount. Even with the 20% it's still quite high in my opinion. Also, OEM is what got me here in the first place, but what real choice do I have? I know there are aftermarket clutch's but I don't plan to keep the car much longer after this debacle.

I understand, it a lot of money no matter what. But 20% of $2.4k would be $480, which a chunk of money. If you could pull off the 30%, it would be a $720 discount and bring your total to about $1680. Just trying to look on the bright side and make the most of their 'customer service' given your situation. If your regional service manager denied your claim, not sure what else you can do. Good luck!!!

Thanks Seijou. I think I might take it up with my attorney and Magnuson?Moss Warranty Act and make them prove it.

I would send that friction disc to the NATIONAL/HQ service manager, and ask him HOW did my wife possibly cause THIS?!?!?

WHO actually manufactures our friction lining material on these cars anyway, Valeo, or one of the other OEM suppliers?

Welcome Aboard.
I hope you get things works out.

However, the photo of the pressure plate looks like hot spots and those don't happen form a clutch disk failure, assuming the normal driving scenario.
The disk looks like a rapid engagement, such as a downshift into the wrong gear (as I have done before).
I am not criticizing the driving, just saying what it looks like.

As for the price, they are about right.
Most dealer labor is now $100.-$125. per hour now.
Also dealers will not resurface the plate, so retail, $800.00 is about right.

You could call Tasca Parts and save about 30% on brand new OEM Ford parts.

Good Luck,
Dave

Also, trying to look on the bright side, maybe an upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel is in your future. If Ford isn't going to help, no reason to use expensive oem parts or the dealer.

I was thinking the same thing, AND they would probably be a decent deal LESS coin than what the dealers are charging for factory stuff, and maybe less labor costs for a tuner to install them as well. ;)

Depending on where scoob is from, he might get forum help if he asks nicely.

I'm not sure what you mean by where I am from. What kind of help are you suggesting?

I'm just saying if you decide to repair the car yourself, you might be able to get help from Forum members if you're close to some.

If you could supply the name and address of the NATIONAL/HQ service manager I would certainly do it.

Is there no one in Virginia willing to help a fellow member out? Like I said, I'll supply the pizza and beer and I have a full size lift in my garage as well as all the tools. I've never done a clutch before.

Thanks Noodles. I'll even offer to pay some one who has experience to help me install the clutch.

I am also too far to help, if you are mechanically inclined (which it seems like you are based on your equipment), I really isnt much different than doing any other work on the car... just different levels of prepwork/disassembly. I've done clutches in my yard with jack stands, while fairly dangerous, it was by no means too difficult. follow service manual, and triple the allotted time, since its not a paid job :)
