Hey everybody, my name is Duane. I'm new to the FiST community and have spent the past couple of years in Mk3 Focuses (Foci?). I had a white SEL that I traded in a month after I got it for a Titanium. I did a few mods and she went on to win Best of Show at FocusFest 2013 and Second in it's class at the concurrent Fun Ford Weekend.

Then this happened in the first week of May-

And this happened May 31-

The Mk3 was a fun build and great car, but I needed more boost in my life. I very nearly traded it on a second FoST in that first weekend, but I wasn't ready to part with it and I was afraid that I would regret not waiting for the dealership to get another FiST in. When I went to the dealership the last weekend, I just wanted to verify that I would fit in the FiST Recaro's (6', 250 lbs), and as soon as I knew that I did we went and did paperwork. I'm not usually into colorful cars, but I fell in love with the Molten Orange Recaro's. They actually had two others there (all three were still un-prepped in the back lot), but the MO on MO just set this one apart.

My builds will be a little slow initially because I usually try and wait until after 10-15k miles (just to make sure nothing warranty-big happens) before installing most bolt-ons or suspension changes, but I have the MBRP cat-back for the FoST sitting in the living room, threw in one of my K&N filters in it, and will be accumulating more parts throughout that time-frame. I may have my 1.2's repainted and throw them on, but I already swapped the bike rack onto it along with some miscellaneous parts from the Mk3. I also swapped most of the little things into it like the all-season mats, the Pro-Clip holder, some LED's, etc.

The FiST will get more attention initially seems how the FoST got hand-me-downs. I ordered my Pro-Clip mount for my S5, threw in a Cobb drop-in, and have some smaller items either in or awaiting shipping like badges and a Cobb RMM. Aside from de-badging the Fiesta badge, I also stuffed some foam into the sound symposer tube to quiet it down. I wasn't a fan personally, and maybe because I had the FoST to compare it to. I removed the spare tire to gain a little extra room in the hatch and lose a few pounds over the rear wheels.

My first larger-scale mod is actually going to be in the interior, which is good because it was one of the areas that my Mk3 was really lacking in when it came to doing shows as it was very nearly stock inside. I was recently contacted by Nick and Joe from JPM Coachworks and we discussed some of their thoughts on parts and pieces that they would like to start offering for the ST's and how I can help them with testing fit and finish from the end-users standpoint. We're discussing options and ideas on both vehicles, so hopefully the end result will be some tasteful and sporty yet elegant upgrades. Judging from the research I did, I'm confident that it will all look stellar.

Outside of that...there are quite a few decisions to be made. I still have to finish polishing both vehicles, and that's a considerable amount of work. I'm going to go drill off my front plate holder and then explain to people that the holes are for additional FMIC airflow, lol.

I'm still researching a lot on both (my first two turbocharged cars), I just thought I would get a thread started now and be a little ahead of the game. My photos usually come from my phone, so some will be decent and some will be crap (if not already). It's really freaking hard for me to show the MO because what looks correct on my S5 usually ends up wrong on my laptop.

Hopefully you'll eventually enjoy my as-of-yet-unnamed crayons!

Hey dyno glad you made it here...I'm a long time FF member.
Thanks! Sometimes I see usernames and wonder if it's the same person as on FF. I'm still an admin over there and still post, but I'm trying to break out and spend a little more time on the ST forums. Trying to get up to speed on both cars is mind-numbing at times.
Hello and thanks for hanging out at my first C&C to talk about our MO Fiestas...
It was good to meet you, Matt! Hopefully I'll see you there more often as I usually try to make it every month if possible. At some point I'll be hitting you up for info/advice on a subwoofer install, but that's a little bit down the road yet. I definitely liked how clean your install looked.

As for right now I'm back out in the garage with my PC7424XP and Meguiars M105. When I did my Mk3 I was unemployed, so putting 40 hours into polishing paint wasn't that big of a deal. I'm trying to knock this car out gradually as opposed to one big session, but I'm hoping to have the front bumper done today and maybe the drivers side front fender and doors done tomorrow.

Thanks!

I drilled off my stupid plate-holder and installed some plugs for now. I have some paint plans so whenever that happens I may buy two more and have them painted to blend in better. It's better than the plate holder imho, but not a very clean look currently.

I like what you did with the Mk3 Focus, never seen one look that good. What kind of interior mods will you be doing to the interior?

Thanks! I received a lot of compliments on that car and it was somewhat internet-famous, but I had done nearly everything I could feasibly do with it without doing a custom FI setup. I enjoyed it as I had it, but if I hadn't gotten the FiST it would have gone away for next year's MX-5.

As for interior, I don't really want to say much until I'm certain, and I have the tendency to hold off for a full reveal. There may be some teasers along the way though...

What I can say about the interior is that I ordered LED's for it and the license plate. This is one of the little things that bothers me in the FiST/FoST relationship. While I understand that the FoST has more incentives, it really frustrated me that the FiST doesn't come with LED's like big brother. Without having a direct comparison most people won't understand, but financially-speaking the FoST is so much better of a deal and comes with so much more. Hell, even the little strings that lift up the rear parcel shelf are better.

/rant

Either way, a lot of little things were ordered and should be arriving soon. I'm also through polishing the hood, nose, front fender and drivers door. It leveled out a little, but it's going to take a lot more work to get on the level of the Mk3. This is part of why I love greyscale...

Nice, did the panels pop off easily? Thinking about swapping the speakers in the future.

Super-easy. 5 Torx screws and pull.

Edit: I just pulled of the drivers side. Pull the door handle off first, just start at the bottom and work your way up, pulling straight towards yourself-

There are two T25 Torx screws, one at the top and one at the bottom.

Now push this little circle in the door handle. Push the area at the front of the car and it will hinge like this-

Now slip something into the open area at the rear and it pops out revealing a T20-

There are two of these, one at the rear of the door panel and one on the bottom. Pop them open for the two remaining T20's-

Now just pull on the rear and bottom until it begins to pop off. You'll need to work the rear, bottom, and front loose, then it can pull up and release from the top. Reach in and disconnect your plugs, and after work I'll post how to remove the handle as I couldn't get a good picture of it-

Lol, I do sheetmetal work on aircraft; I'm a licensed A&P. It sounds more glorious than it actually is.
Thank you and great job on the how to.
I'll probably just create a how-to in the interior section, but here is the back of the panels for a reference until then-

And here are the door handles that I was talking about. Basically you have to push the clips that are on the left side of the picture and they will rotate in towards the cabin. Once they are loose you just turn it 90? and slide it back through the hole it sits in to take the door panel completely off.

Edit: The clips that that picture doesn't show well-

Lol, I think I may be in the cusp of rolling over 900 miles...

No, it's for the door inserts to send to JPM Coachworks. I'm having them redone, and unfortunately they have to come out through the back of the panel. It looks Mk3 difficult than it actually is.

What is semi-difficult are the effing dome lights, if you haven't already swapped to led. My led's came today and I figured it would be a painless swap of bulbs. I had to use a hook pick and flathead to get the license plate lights out, so I was relieved when the dome light housing just pulled down. But the bulb is in some weird receptacle that, if you aren't holding it tightly, can fall into the opening left when you set your parking brake...

So I'm going to learn how to pull the center console as well, but not until I figure out how to take the rear interior lights out. Dafuq Ford?

Awesome, thanks for the link! I thought I was done until I plugged it in and found a third bulb in the center...le sigh.

Anyhow, now I'm working on pulling the center console to get my other plug.

Edit: It was raining so I pulled the inserts instead-

I may as well post a pic because soon the hard-parts won't be visible to anyone. FiST stuff on the left, FoST stuff on the right.
