Rescue from rust

What's the title referring to? Well, I'm a Minnesota resident, and if you drive a vehicle here year round, it starts to decay year one with all of the road chemicals used in the winter. I currently own a '95 Miata as my summer fun toy, but it doesn't get much use with 2 young children in the house so I started searching for ST's. At first I'd been looking at '16's with lower mileage which I would have been happy with until I saw an '18 with 4500 miles on the clock hit Motorwerks BMW in Bloomington, MN. The price was far too high, only a few hundred less than new, but I kept e-mailing them about it, and came in on the final day of the month to test drive it. They were willing to deal and I was able to drive it away for $16,500 which is the number I gave them on day one for my max price. A pretty sweet deal IMO - only it doesn't have Recaros which I told myself I had to have....they're just too difficult to come across on a used ST. :p
So, back to rescued from rust. This particular car saw snow maybe once with its previous owner and I plan to only drive it in the summers here in MN. In fact, I drove it home from the dealer 6 weeks ago and haven't gotten to drive it yet, fortunately spring is nearly here!
I'm ready to start modding! Mountune springs are on order and soon will be a RAM air intake through Whoosh.
The sad news is that I have to sell the Miata so for anyone local to the twin cities, it'll be up on CL soon.
I'm looking forward to getting to know the ST community!

I for sure know what you mean about rust, winter road salt and chemicals as I am from Massachusetts and lived 2 years in MN. Massachusetts is also bad with road salt but MN is even worse. The salt eats cars so bad- the undercarriage, suspension components, brake rotors, you name it. They salt the roads so heavily a nice car does not have a chance. You can protect the undercarriage with priming, painting, undercoating the parts under the car and rinse the salt off every storm. It's a lot of work but by keeping the salt off it does help preserve the vehicle. You really need a winter beater up there but then it's hard to see your nice car sit for 6 months plus. My permanent solution was to move south.

I see the FL hehehe. So the car is good, but then some *ick like Andrew or Wilma comes and wipes out your house every 1 to 10 years. [wink]
