Running FiST with E85 Blends - Discussion Thread

If you've got a 2867R then, yes, there is a very good reason to wire up the 4 port. I think that what you've been told is that you can run E85 and make good power but you'll need to upgrade the LPFP to push enough fuel to the HPFP and 4 port. Whether you can make much more on E85 over E50/40/30 is something your tuner can answer. I don't think that you'd need to upgrade your LPFP to max out on E30.

Sorry for the controversy fellas. I was just curious about it. I have the 4 port in the car but need to wire it up. I wasn’t sure if there was any benefit of even attempting it. It would just be easier to fill up full E85 but if the returns aren’t worth the investment let me know.

I was told that all I would need is a higher flowing pump and it wouldn’t be expensive.
You can run E85 straight just get tuned for it. DSport Mag Project Fiesta ran E85 with 4 port only, no new pumps of any kind. The more you know!

You can run E85 straight just get tuned for it. DSport Mag Project Fiesta ran E85 with 4 port only, no new pumps of any kind. The more you know!
The problem is that the in-tank fuel pump cannot keep up at higher power level. After about E60 or so, you’ll start seeing the in-tank pressure dropping because it cannot supply the amount of fuel you’re asking. Remember that you need MORE of E85 than of 91/93.

Yes, you can run E85 on the stock in-tank pump and 4-port. But, expect to make much less power than if you’d run E30-50 (30 to 50 depending on your setup).

It wasn’t around when I was looking into going full E85 so I never considered it. I was looking at the Walbro 465lph and Injector Dynamics 1050cc/min injectors for over 500whp on full E85. Pumaspeeds is a 340lph so without doing the math, I would assume it could make 380+ on E85. You could also run a surge tank with a DW300 or a Walbro 255 in-line with the in-tank.

Stratified recommends an upgraded lpfp past 400hp. Under that you can run E85 straight

So about 350whp. A big turbo car with 4-port on e30-50 will see 380-4XXwhp without needing a new in-tank.
I’m going by what Stratified Automotive Controls says in their description of their 4 Port Auxiliary Fuel System 😃

That’s a huge difference between 93 & E50. I wouldn’t have guessed it’s a 80 whp swing. I was expecting 93 would have a bit more punch.

On 93 you’re running into octane limits (mean best torque, the edge of knock, etc) of our engines architecture. A better flowing head and/or more displacement would net more on 93 if done correctly.

Speaking of which, (off-topic, but Hijinx is here and I wanna pick his brain) does anyone have any experience with the bigger cams and/or ported heads on the EC 1.6? I'd assume that there's not much to be found on the exhaust side as we just plug it up with a turbo, anyways, but I wonder if we could find equal flow at less boost by opening up the intake side.

There is a member here who, IIRC, had ported heads and stage 3 cams. Real name is Franco Prado. He’s the only USDM FiST that I can think of who’s car ran. I don’t know about the overseas guys. In the past, cams were hard to tune because there wasn’t enough access to the ECU.

Things have been stagnant on the big power end until recently with Chris Goods 11.2 run. I know he’s starting a long block build, so we’ll see about head stuff. My short block should be done before him.
