So i was looking to buy a cold air intake specifically the ITG Maxogen for my fiesta. But i hear that sometimes u can lose power and i dont wanna do that so it be nice to hear what route you all went to help be decide.
ST200 hands down.....cheaper....better ....fresh air hose can be routed to your desire.

I have the mountune, of course. Came with the MP215.

It's not much louder than stock, but it's a true CAI, as it draws air from outside the engine bay.

EDIT: It's the same thing as the ST200, just aluminum instead of plastic. Get whichever's cheaper.

Second this. Love that it adds just a hint of intake noise and looks pretty stock. Plus you know you're drawing the colder air due to the hose you can place as you please. Mines under the headlight much like the mountune kit recommends.

The reason most say an intake can lose power is that the stock intake is pretty well insulated and draws cold air from down below(through the small hole in the bottom of the airbox) as well as the radiator cowl(where a big mouth attaches).

If you give up the stock airbox for an open cone filter, you lose the benefit of the heat shielding the plastic gives to the filter and thus you're drawing in warmer air from the engine bay.

Does the mountune being aluminum affect the air temps at all? I hear people say the ST200 being plastic makes a difference in heat soaking capacity.

I was almost going to snag a mountune kit a while ago on offer up but ultimately decided on the ST200 box since it sold before I could get it.

Both...Aluminum dissipates heat better than Steel....Plastic also heat soaks but at a slower rate like aluminum. Open intakes IMO are the worst.....why? You are sucking Hot engine bay air....constantly. You may get more sound with an open style....but that's it. That's really not a benefit either just noise....

I've checked to see if it ever got particularly hot, and it doesn't seem to.
Also, what TyphoonFiST said. Plastic will retain heat, while aluminum will cool faster once you're moving through the air.
There's no significant difference.
The plastic is more stealth and looks stock, if that matters to you.

Anyone with the mountune or ST200 kit running a big mouth by chance?

I'm on the fence about them since I'm not sure if it'll negate the advantage the cold air hose has.

That was why I ultimately chose mine as well, I'll try and sneak the ST200 box past the smog techs here in CA in a few years.

It looks like the big mouth would be a CAI, too, since it draws air from in front of the radiator. If it has any sort of ram effect, that would be negated by the second intake. You'd be getting max cold air, though.
They look cool, but I'm not cutting on my car.

That's also a bit why I'm on the fence too. All my mods so far have been reversible given enough time, but you can't uncut the shroud.

Just remember with either stock or ST200 you will have that snorkel going to the front of the car still and you should cut a hole in the shroud in front of that, like you would for a Big Mouth install even without the Big Mouth going in... This helps charge temps a bit too, it sucks in air directly from behind the open grille this way.

Did the shroud cut really make an instrument verified difference? I was looking at it while installing my intercooler and in terms of surface area it looks like there's more than enough area to draw in air without cutting the shroud. Not arguing, just wondering if it made a measurable difference.

Last year I ran an injen during the winter and swapped back to stock for the summer (sitting in traffic led to 130+ intake temps with the injen during summer), it kept the temps down but was kinda boring.

Yes, probably about 5-10 degrees on the hottest days and helps with IC heat soak not being quite so bad too of course when IAT temps are down a bit... without the shroud cut it sucks in air from off the radiator, or so it looks like.

Hmm looks like I've got my next project than if it makes a pretty big difference.

But you can just buy another one should you choose to go back but I’m running the stock air box with a big mouth and IMO I say do it. Besides the added benefit of pressurizing the air box at speeds (with cooler air) so the intake doesn’t have to draw from a vacuum it looks dope af

so with the ST200 u can install a big mouth as well?
Sure, it retains the same front air feed as well as adding the 2nd inlet from the bottom hose... it would be curious to see, if it could even be tested, from which inlet has the lowest resistance and sucks the most air in from.
