So when my AP gets here monday i'll install one of the free Cobb OTS tunes to get started. My plan is to sooner than later buy an e30 tune and go from there. Having read up on tuners, the 5 listed are the main ones i could find recommended by the majority of people, each with good and bad. I went to the websites of each and had a gander at their listings but not sure if i have the prices correct in my head. Just looking to be corrected if im wrong about the prices.

All im after first for a paid tune is an e30 tune, preferably the lowest cost one. Later this year or early next i will upgrade my FMIC and reassess the tune from there. Unless i messed up the options menus, the following are what i gathered from their websites for a no frills e30 tune.

Dizzy) E30 Flash tune = $75
Stratified) Single file e30 mix tune = $100
JST) Custom E tune + Fuel upgrade tune = $299
Tune+) E-tune package = $200
Cobb) Stage 2 93oct/98RON = Free (is this an e30 tune?)

So on the cobb site i couldn't find anything mentioning e30, on Tune+ all i saw was a tune package deal, im assuming it's all inclusive and you can choose e30. With JST it seems you have to buy a entry level tune first, then add a fuel upgrade. Dizzy and Stratified seemed the simplest and cheapest, with Cobb being an unknown atm. Am i missing anything? If the above is accurate, how would you compare the Dizzy e30 vs the Stratified e30?

Cobb doesn't include any E30 tunes in their hardware, that map is the stage 2 for 93 octane. The 98 Ron I believe is a measurement of fuel octane in Europe bit that's the equivalent of 93 octane over there.

I can't speak for the E30 tunes from either vendor but if it's anything like their flash tunes for 91 octane (I have one from both Dizzy and Stratified) , Dizzy will be a lot smoother on the throttle and the way he advances timing, so you won't have as much of a torque kick and a little more usable power through the higher RPMs.

Stratified is if you want to burn some rubber and cause wheelspin because it's like the Cobb tunes on steroids. There's a lot more torque down low and the car definitely feels faster due to aggressive throttle remapping(even with linear setting chosen it still feels very aggressive compared to the Dizzy tune) , but it loses its steam higher in the RPMs.

Stratified is definitely more fun I will say but I use it more on weekends or when I want to have a little fun with the car and a little more gas to waste. For everyday driving and commuting I prefer Dizzy, you have to kind of get into the power band of the car before it really takes off and thus can be a bit smoother in the lower RPMs. Like others have said before, the stratified feels almost more raw or primal, as soon as you get in gear it wants to go go go.

Thanks spork Maybe I have heard others mention this recently it sounds familiar it's just hard to keep track of so many different things when everything is still pretty new.

So either one sounds like fun but I guess I'll have to think about it for at least the next few days and decide which one is more useful for me. I will say that more torque down lower is definitely fun but high-end power means I can get better gas mileage a little easier by staying out of the throttle which is also important.

and I also have to say and I also have to say I love the sound of these cars when you get the RPMs up past 4000.

They are all good tuners. The Tune+ $350 package is a lifetime tune with unlimited revisions and all that. It's expensive at first but as you keep adding on stuff you don't have to keep paying. My buddy did 93oct, E30, then adding a WGA, then went Hybrid so again 93oct, E30, even a Meth Tune. Still has not paid for a revision. There are a few exceptions to which you do have to pay a bit extra but its mostly Port, E40+ tunes and all that jazz.

As for E30 tunes, most of them will be similar just go for the one you see the better review of. I myself never tuned E30 on stock turbo but my First tune was the $200 E-Tune from Tune+ and worked great up until I decided to swap the turbo.

If you want to go the cheapest way, just stay OTS untill you can go full custom. Also get all the bolt-ons you need first, Basically just IC and DP. Think of the future mods you want, the end goal before you start purchasing a bunch of flash tunes and stuff that wont satisfy your final goal.

I don't know if things have changed over time, but tune revisions thru stratified used to take a while. I think the other vendors mentioned have a quick turn around.

I never had a Stratified tune, but the previous owner had the Cobb stage 2 tune on when I bought the car. As mentioned, the car kind of shoved it's way forward at lower RPMs. It was a good bit more abrupt and aggressive, I can only imagine the tire squeal and shove from a Stratified tune.

When I got the Dizzy stage 2 (93) tune it did feel much more progressive than Cobb, and again as mentioned, does feel like it has more up top. I'll be sticking with the Dizzy tune, as I use my car for the twisties and live between 4000 and 5500 RPMs.

Can agree with the Stratified e30 being aggressive, torque comes on like a light switch. FWIW, I've been wanting to try a Dizzy tune because of what others have said

I had a 91/93 tune from Randy(Mountune), 93/E30 from Dizzy, and 91/93/E30 from Stratified.
At that time I had an intake, induction hose and fmic from Mountune. Randy’s 93 tune was the best non Ethanol tune and the Stratified E30 tune was the best tune.
You don’t need hard parts to run a tune but if you have an intake and a fmic you will receive a tune with more balls vs if you’re stock. πŸ‘Œ

+1 on Randy's tune! I can't compare it to others but the Mountune tune with only a DV+ and intake is a great mix of aggressive when you want it as well as day to day usability. The torque low down is great too, I feel a big difference versus stock even before the boost kicks in.

I use Brian at JST performance and can't say enough good things. He takes real good care of me and I had a trap speed of 102.65 last night on a not yet complete tune. Also like to note it was my first time ever at Milan. My ETs were not very good because I'm still learning low to best launch this car and hook up correctly.

Waiting on a fresh new tune today :)

once finished and get the hang of it should be able to trap anywhere from 106-110

That would be pretty excellent. My 1/4 times were abysmal lol

Considering getting some drag slicks

If you wait until the holiday season, Dizzy does a combo for like 75-100 bucks that includes a normal gas tune and an e30 tune. It's a pretty good deal. I do not know if he'd do a deal if you just ask nicely, but no harm ever came from asking :p

Ill keep it in mind for sure but i have a few e85 stations nearby so i don't think i will ever go back to straight gas. My wife drives a Focus SE which is flex fuel that can use straight e85 and i even have her interested lol. In fact it's how i got her to stop complaining about another $100 or so for the tune, she wouldn't listen to my technical reasons till i told her about her car using it πŸ˜†

But yea unless all the stations here die at the same time i'll only really want the e30 tune. All my family lives in the midwest so i don't really travel elsewhere. If someday i do i'll grab a different tune for sure though. Im also still trying to decide which is a better fit for me, as people say Stratified has the lower end tq push like crazy, while Dizzy keeps pulling more to redline.

I have both dizzy and strat tunes and the strat is really fun but definitely gets old after a bit. It rips up your tires and runs out of breath up top

Yea the tire thing is something to think about, they aren't cheap. At the moment im leading towards Dizzy, i like the idea of having a longer usable rev range and it seems like it'd be easier to save gas down low when i don't want all that power.

Yeah MPG wise I see like a 2 or 3 MPG difference between dizzy and stratified depending on the amount of freeway driving I do. The stratified throttle mapping being so aggressive its almost hard to be smooth and fuel efficient on the throttle.
