Get another seat. [driving]
Kind of between that and trying to chat with an upholstery shop. My thing is I want to retain the factory airbags, and I’m unwilling to drop a thousand dollars plus on factory recaros that have been destroyed by the airbags being deployed.

Ya he could do what I have been seeing a lot of people doing lately, installing aftermarket racing seats .
Another thing he could do is go to the Junkyard and get a set of BRZ /FRS seats . One of our members here did that in his car and even wrote up how to do it.

edit…. I just saw Doomsdays post above he wrote while I was writing this and I will answer that if look you can find them in the Yards for way less with airbags intact.

Can’t see any other specific identifying details of the car besides the wheels but I might have seen that car rolling around town a couple times. It looked decent on the outside but price is high and who really knows.
Price is absurd, even when dealers were selling the FiST above MSRP, they weren’t getting $26k. Especially considering if that’s the first owner he probably picked that car up for about 17-18k, that’s just price gouging on the order of people reselling GPUs lately.

I think this price spike will dissipate fairly quickly. It's national news, and if you go on craigslist and the like, old-ass cars with absurd miles are going for big bucks. Stupid money for what you get. This will pass.
Some people need to get another car, but most can stick with what they have for a few months, or another year. Sellers' markets only last until they run out of buyers. I'd keep an eye on a car I actually wanted, until the price drops to a reasonable level.
Carmax, et al., will keep the price of cult cars like the FiST a little higher, because there will always be a demand for practical, fun cars, and it's one of the best. A clean one that hasn't been beat on or poorly modified will always be worth something as long as gasoline is available. Even when it hits $5 a gallon, again.

this looks pretty decent. Not sure if it's a real octane academy car or an imposter

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...Helper.selectedEntity=d1060#listing=294044908

tempted if my insurance wasn't already so high
It is a reall one and it’s being flipped for profit. It’s been on other threads here. Some of us were directly offered these cars from Octane Academy last spring for 8k. I almost bought one but after taxes and delivery costs from SC it would have been over 10K.
So at the price they are trying to sell it for its a hard pass.

We sold one of ours to Carvana in February for 9300, they just reconditioned it and sold it for 16,590 that is absolutely INSANE. I feel bad for whoever bought it, it had 91k miles but was in good shape. It'll be worth nothing once the bubble pops though.

have to beat myself up for that as I would have jumped on it being 8k.

but yeah that is a huge markup, can understand why people are frustrated. no way thats not gouging.

that being said when you compare it to whats out there AND the car comes with some pretty nice track prep (cage seems nicely done, tow hooks, would imagine better cooling), at face value seems like its not too bad. well maybe the full cage makes it unpractical for anything other than a track car.

really tempted to see if I can haggle them down to 11k

you should really read up on the posts about it here. The cage is not SCCA legal. The handbrake setup can be put together. Cooling is stock and tow hooks are easy . At 8k and if the cars had still been in Utah I would have grabbed one. On the otherside of the country changed the picture quite a bit:LOL:

Ah good points! Damn I for a track car I would have expected to them at the very least to upgrade the deplorable radiator!

They don't need it. Stock. Only mod on the Fiestas was the handbrake, rollcage, rear seat delete. And they run all season Michelin Pilot Sport 3's. Which is a good thing since at least the last year or so it seems to be raining at Charlotte more than not.

This depends entirely on your geographic location. Stock it is undersized for the amount of heat our turbo engines generate. Especially for a car driven hard.
I went to Octane Academy in Utah there was a reason they gave the cars cool down time between track sessions. Both the Intercooler and radiator along with the brakes were heavily affected.
If one were seriously racing an upgraded radiator would be part of the deal.
Oh and yes we are talking about a car outfitted to be like a race car for instructional purposes to say they do not need is not exactly a true statement. It just means Ford was not willing to try and source a upgraded radiator for the car at the time. I believe Octane Academy was started even before Mishimoto had even fabricated their radiator for our car and Mountune had not started selling one stateside. The only Aluminum aftermarket radiators were in the UK.

I bought a 2018 Fist (base seats, sunroof, MBRP exhaust) for $16,790 from a local Seattle Audi dealer in February. It was in immaculate condition with 19K miles.

Sold it for $20,200 2 months later to a Carmax. Even after changing the trans fluid (myself) and installing a Thermal catback, 10% WA tax, and license and reg, I still MADE $1000 on it. Suckers!

Carmax has it listed for $22K now, btw. Original window sticker says it was $23K new.

I wasn't totally happy with the FiSTyboi, and my wife hated it. Coming from a MK7 GTI it just felt a bit rinkydink size and quality-wise.
So at someone's suggestion, I checked what Carmax would give me for it, and jumped on that. Getting out of a car you're not in love with at no loss is hard to pass up.
Now I'm looking for another GTI or Golf R and of course everything is overpriced so I'm out of a fun car, period.. LOL.

Fair enough. That's kind of what I did with my Focus RS, without the sweet profit. Be patient and while inflation may be here to stay for a while, the use car bubble won't. I'll give it 8-12 months before things get back to reality.

Speaking of flipping cars...I've bought and sold 4 cars in the last year and made $$$....I have an opportunity once again, these just seem to fall in my lap, tell me if you guys think it's worth it.

2013 Accord LX base model with leather and 6-speed manual and no other options. Silver, 4-door, southern car, 157k, one owner, has a few scrapes on the bumpers that would need to be re-painted to look right, but not horrible, and overall very clean and no issues. I can get it for $6600. Thinking of flipping it and making maybe $1000 quick.

I don't want to buy it and be stuck with it, but with the market the way it is I feel I can't lose.

Selling a 6-speed manual is the catch. They are so rare, maybe too much so. It's a lovely car, very nice in fact. The 6-speed and 4 cyl engine are a superb match. Very fun to drive even if just a stripper Accord.

Not sure about that one. Kind of a common car except for the manual part. Finding that niche buyer might be tough and that's a lot of miles too. Is the risk and hassle worth $1k? Tough call.
