This is helpful. I’m pretty torn between the whoosh and s280. I’m not, I repeat not, going with aux fuel so I think the whoosh is enough but I’m not 100% decided.
Can’t go wrong either way. I have a friend close by with a whoosh hybrid and his car is a blast to drive. I’ll keep this updated when I install the s280

I’ve got a Whoosh hybrid on order but I already went ATP2560, if you want a good deal on a brand new Whoosh hybrid with no wait time PM me and we can work it out

Couple new things on the way - Unicorn S284 kit Ron magically found, @grey fist‘s custom shifter and a titanium reverse lock out from LatheWerks to match my shifter extension.

Still in the garage waiting to be installed - TB 4-point brace, Maxton splitter, Radium ccv side catch can.

One of these days I’ll have to install stuff

Installed the new shifter assembly from grey fist and a titanium reverse lockout from Lathewerks while I was at it. Shifter feels great and no more mismatched textures next to each other driving me nuts.

Unboxed the s284 today and test fit the inlet and compressor outlet with BPV. Kit seems very well thought out and fits up seemingly perfect. A little disappointed the inlet has the quick tap not the molded silicone that’s in all the pics but that side doesn’t see boost so whatever.

Pic next to stock turbo for size reference. Will do the same with the 2860 once it’s out.

Got the block mod done today and test fit the turbo and manifold on there. Took more grinding than the pic above but now fits up perfect. Cleaned out all the shit from grinding and plumbed the solenoid. Ready to go in

Took it slow and did the S284 install over the course of a few days. Super smooth overall with the exception of the oil drain line going MIA which required an impromptu ride to Ford. Had two furry copilots for the trip.

Bummed the ARP turbo to downpipe studs didn’t fit. Had to reuse the OEM hardware but hey now whoever buys my 2860 is getting APR hardware with it.

Couple revs. Might miss my VTA blow off valve. Stupid ugly symposer delete back in there now instead of the BOV.

Couple updates that ultimately equate to a flip flop on turbo selection - I've sold the S280 and airtec manifold.

On order and due to arrive next week I have a WOR modified stock manifold to get rid of the Vband adapter solution in the ATP kit and am sticking with the 2860. Will have the manifold ceramic coated once it arrives, then all back together.

Maybe I'll install my Maxton splitter that's been sitting in the basement while I wait. Car is currently sitting in the garage with no mani, turbo, etc. installed and the battery tender keeping it juiced. Bummed to not get to drive it for what'll equate to ~a month overall but will be worth it.

I might have missed it, but why the turbo change?

Quite a few reasons, but mostly that I love the 2860 powerband and trust Garrett reliability/warranty more than that of the S280. I bought the S280 in a moment of frustration that I had to pull the 2860 again to adjust the IWG pre load but all in all, I like the 2860 better. It was my first choice from the beginning so I feel good about the S280 experiment and even better about keeping the 2860. Granted it took finding the WOR manifold and adding a Mountune hot side pipe to replace the ATP one to make the kit what I want, but I feel it's damn near perfect now and has more headroom for sure if I ever add aux fuel or hpfp/injectors.

what did you like about the powerband in the 2860 over the 280? Thought you mentioned you prefer the response of the stock turbo and maybe the 280 would be closer in stock to responsiveness.

curious also with the addition of higher flowing injectors what you'd get. tempted to throw on my 2860 and its helpful feedback to know you had positive experience with Dizzy.

The 2860 is more pronounced when it kicks in and just makes you laugh as a result. I drive the car ~2000 miles a year so when I do, it’s all gas.

When you have time would you please post a parts list for a proper 2860 kit the way you have it now? I’m interested in going this direction as well. Thanks in advance.

Wow, what you've been through is crazy. I'd have pulled what hair I have left out a long time ago.

Sad you went through the BS of having a bum shop work on your car.

you could also get the Peron kit too, which seems really comprehensive. however sadly it doesn't come with catted downpipe if you prefer that. Not sure if adding higher flow injectors on top of it would be worthwhile with pump gas.

For sure. TBH if I knew now what I did when I started down the turbo upgrade route, I would have bought a complete G25-550 externally wastegated kit from Will at WOR. The spool and power band of the G25 seems to be the perfect medium for this car IMO.

I 100% second this statement… I have the Peron g25-550 setup and it’s great, but the WOR fab setup is proper through and through. The variation lies in slightly greater unequal length manifold which presents a lumpier exhaust note, speculation on my part, and also has the tial BOV vs the turbo smart BPV. 2860 setup is fantastic as well but as you stated I feel the g25 has a bit more headroom with even further reduced spool time/comparable. If I could do it all over again, i would as well have chosen WOR… unfortunately my purchase was procured prior to my knowledge of Will’s (WOR) establishment.
