Having driven both, and ending up with the BRZ (86), I came to the same conclusion that they did. If you can only have ONE car get the 86, if you are buying a toy car get the Miata. I absolutely loved everything about the Miata, it just doesn't work well as an only car.

That color looks great. I can’t get enough of my new brz.I already have like 6500 miles on it.They make perfect amount of power to have fun on street and not get into trouble. I love sliding mine around.

its a pretty tough choice even as only car.

miata does get noticeably better fuel economy and unless im mistaken, lower cost to insure.

ND as a track toy (if thats your thing), I imagine lower weight and more efficient fuel economy lead to lower cost of consumables. but the con is its really hard to store stuff like another set of wheels and tires. also the initial cost of a ND club trim with brembos/recaros approx $5k more in price. Thats not even factoring the cost of an aftermarket hardtop..

but yeah this is the one of the hardest choices to make. If I ever replace my fiesta, with a newer car, itd be between the 86 and ND. slighly leaning on the ND because it wouldnt be my only car and already pay higher insurance.

86 I would have a hard time with a ND in part because it’s looks just are hit and miss and I am not a convertible guy never have been. Hardtop or go home. Which would cost more as well. The only two new cars that really have my eye fun car wise are the Nissan Z and the 86.
Of course a 918 Cayman would be dope but ya completely off the price radar.

I thought this might an interesting comparison. I don’t know if the link works but it’s from a YouTuber named Zygrene.
Just to add, this guy tracks the BRZ and does recommend going to a coil over setup in order to adjust camber which he claims is non-adjustable in stock form. I was not clear why someone could not just use camber plates on this car. He did compare a stock vs a modified car on the track and did notice a difference. On the street it probably is less noticeable. I’m not plugging his channel but he seems to be the “first” or “only” guy tracking his BRZ?

I took on a brz with turbo in my s280 and that thing is super quick. My car was having some issues with possible fueling issues/boost leak but it was still fun. He kept up for a bit with my buddies Evo.

Google Charlie Smith brz. His Instagram will come up. He is the guy with the turbo brz I raced. Nice ride and he tracks it. Screenshot_20220221-124414_Messenger.jpg

You can use factory crash bolts and aftermarket camber bolts to easily get -1.5* or more on the twins. I run -3.2* on my FRS. Not sure what he is talking about....

My favorite part of this entire thing is that Max Orido's car (his personal 86) is Automatic and supercharged, and he still absolutely loves the car.
I wonder if they have a carb legal supercharger for the old version. Minus the automatic… that would be an interesting option.

So it looks like a used one would be around 15k, a supercharger 5k and a set of coil overs around 1 k . You are in for the low 20’s vs a new one at almost 30k. That’s a tough one considering a new car warranty and low miles of the new one.

Oh it’s funny because Danny and I were talking about it last night and he felt if his FiST was to get wrecked the GR86 would be high on his list as a replacement as he feels it would be hard to find a clean used FiST most are driven hard.

I never heard of “clean used FiST” driven hard. I’m already on the second motor at 30k [emoji1]

The used market for the Gen1 cars is absolutely bonkers right now. People are asking 14-18k for a pre-facelift with 100k miles on them.

Ya which if I were to buy one would push me even more to a new. In fact I would only buy a new one. Gen 1 is just to much extra work to make it what it should have been in my eyes.
