What "affordable fun" stable mate for your Fiesta do you have?

Anyone else into RC? Been fixing up my old Team Associated (US made!) cars and trucks this summer to enjoy with the boys. Talk about “affordable” - parts are often $3 - and I can work on them while watching TV with my wife. Fun to restore and drive…but real cars are more fun.

And yes, the buggy needs work - currently rebuilding it for my brothers bday

My new second vehicle: a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ that I bought from my brother.

I rock this as my other car. It has a pretty unique transmission/transfer case setup. When driven properly it's an insane amount of fun and really capable. Also a 6 speed manual. I rebuilt the 3a motor in it last year but I think I'm gonna order a 4age for it, maybe throw a silly turbo under there.

2018 EcoSport SES. I got this for a winter car, and I put wheels and a grill on it. It's the CUV Fiesta. I actually enjoy driving it. It rocks in snow.


My 2009 Suzuki DR650. I've only ever owned dirt bikes, and the ones I like best are street legal. This one is 20 lbs. lighter than stock, and a good bit quicker. The PO spent a fortune modifying it with great, essential mods. I've done more. I've ridden it on some serious trails, and I've ridden it on freeways at 75+. Not perfect for either, but it can do both anytime.
It would survive Armageddon. I wouldn't, but that bike would.

I have my FiST which has long been my DD, got rid of my giulia, but I also have 2 x 2022 Honda Navis, a 2023 honda grom, and 2 days ago I brought home a 2024 Yamaha Tenere.
I was going to buy another car but after buying a bunch of bikes I think that marital peace will be easier to maintain if I wait a while before acquiring another fun maintenance nightmare car.

Quick review:
- Giulia: one of my favorite cars I have ever hated owning
- Honda Navis: absolutely delightful and charming and I love them, all 40-50 mph top speed's worth. Absurd amount of storage in the stock cargo box, super short range. $1800 bucks each new!
- Honda Grom: pretty fun, but its almost frustrating when I also own the navis - faster than the Navis, but not faster enough to warrant getting both bikes. Zero storage. Really soft suspension for anyone over 160lbs.
- Yamaha Tenere: god dang, a giant dirtbike with a Yamaha CP2 engine - feels like a KLR, sounds like a harley, rides like a dream. Stock handlebars too flat. Windshield too short for anyone over 5'8"

Honestly, I'm glad I had the experience but I wouldn't do it again.
I used to have the Giulia and a 500 Abarth, both were in for repair or troubleshooting constantly. I hated the feel of the brakes on the giulia and the tire life. It takes a special breed to drive italian, you have to embrace the excitement of "will it start today?". The FiST isn't the best built car but it's worlds more reliable than my Giulia was. As far as I know from interacting with other Giulia QF owners, either your car is dead reliabile or constantly an issue, there's no real middle ground. Lucky me, constantly an issue. I loved it when it was working correctly but I also feel like we've had that adventure, time for something more practical. We're looking at a Mazda CX-5 turbo to replace my wife's stelvio because I am honsetly done with FCA/Stellantis. It won't be as cool (or SOUND as good) but they always work and they're fun to drive. I have had 3 cars lemon lawed through FCA/Stellantis now, my brother's had 2 lemon lawed. My parents' Chrysler is 70k miles and on its third transmission, leaks oil like a sieve - I have spent 12k repairing their vehicle since my dad died in Feb '23.

sorry for the word vomit, pretty passionate about how much I hate FCA/Stellantis at this point. So many cars that are fun to drive but awful to own.

This is my fun toy I picked up a few years ago. My wife dailies the Fiesta ST and I drive the F150 for work. So I get to play with this one.

I keep thinking about a miata, and maybe doing a v8 swap with a monster motorsports or flyinmiata kit... I am just too tall :| I don't like the feeling having the windshield right in the middle of my FOV.

They are small. I have had to contrive a seating position to make the view better. I scoot forward a couple of clicks, leaving my knees more bent than I like, so I can lean the seatback more to lower my head. It's why I didn't trade my 1985 MR2 for a Miata when the Miata first came out. Most of the time the view out is OK, especially with the top down. But seeing a traffic light with the top up means tipping my head sideways.

You mean the Tokyo Auto Salon and yes it was wild . The whole trip got me thinking about acquiring another S13 240sx. Though I am closing in fast on a no rust S30 early 72 240z plus rust bucket parts car.

WAY COOL GARAGE cidsmuth!!! wow! what is usually underneath the FiST on the lift? Is is a Backyard buddy? What is the Ceiling height in the garage to accomodate the FiST in the air? What is the space beneath? 6'H 5'High?

There is nothing under the FiST … I use the 4-post lift for storage and the 2-post for working on them (the stock car is on the 2-post in that pic). Allows me to store two cars in the winter and still have the 2-post free to maintain my daily drivers.

The ceiling height is 13’6”. Right off hand, I can’t remember how high the 4-post gets. Both lifts are Bendpak. The 2-post has been great, while the 4-post has always been shoddy, to be honest.
