Anybody using regular 87-octane gas to mix with E85 to get E30? I wonder if there's any difference apart from 70c/gal

You will be running a lower octane level with the 87 mix. The 87 and E85 would be around 92.5 octane, 91 and E85 95 octane and 93 and E85 96.5. Depending on how aggressive the tune is you may have more knock events. I bet that most of the OTS e30 tunes target the 95 octane range to be conservative.

In short e30 from 93 octane has a higher octane than e30 from 87 octane. Find the shell station closest to you that has the cheapest 93. Shell @ Broadway/410 in SA is consistently 30-40 cents cheaper than all of the other nearby stations

Who cares ? It's like a $3-4 difference....is it worth an engine finding out?
