Coolant reservoir hoses flipped; does it matter?

Previous owner installed a mishimoto coolant reservoir and I assumed they used the incorrect hose for the top barb. So without thinking, I bought a new hose from Whoosh for the top to make it correct.

It turns out they put the hose in the wrong orientation and I bought the wrong hose; I actually needed the bottom. The TOP barb should go to the RIGHT side of the engine and the BOTTOM should go to the LEFT.

Are these lines both returns? Does it matter which line goes to the top or bottom barb? I've been driving like this for awhile. See the picture for how it was rigged.

Here is another picture. You can see where it is ziptied to the hose clip on the valve cover...probably did the same thing and heat-gunned the hose to make it work...

The bottom fed should go to the turbo, the upper hose is for overflow duty... There's a good chance the turbo has been getting poor coolant circulation

I was assuming the turbo was getting fed from the block...but it wouldn't surprise me if it was something weird like that

It's not that strange, you don't want to preheat the coolant before heading into the turbo.... Here's what the routing should look like 1000006784.jpg
