Coolant reservoir hoses flipped; does it matter?

Previous owner installed a mishimoto coolant reservoir and I assumed they used the incorrect hose for the top barb. So without thinking, I bought a new hose from Whoosh for the top to make it correct.

It turns out they put the hose in the wrong orientation and I bought the wrong hose; I actually needed the bottom. The TOP barb should go to the RIGHT side of the engine and the BOTTOM should go to the LEFT.

Are these lines both returns? Does it matter which line goes to the top or bottom barb? I've been driving like this for awhile. See the picture for how it was rigged.

Here is another picture. You can see where it is ziptied to the hose clip on the valve cover...probably did the same thing and heat-gunned the hose to make it work...

The bottom fed should go to the turbo, the upper hose is for overflow duty... There's a good chance the turbo has been getting poor coolant circulation

I was assuming the turbo was getting fed from the block...but it wouldn't surprise me if it was something weird like that

It's not that strange, you don't want to preheat the coolant before heading into the turbo.... Here's what the routing should look like 1000006784.jpg

Honestly, I would think you would want the turbo to get to the normal operating temperature as quickly as possible...also it just feels like it would be odd for the turbo to get fed from the reservoir. But Ford does Ford things

Oh here's some fun parts bullshit.

There are like 10 different revisions and applications for this part. It fit a few different models and they have different bends in them.

i wound up sourcing the -H variant of this part and it works fine as far as i can tell.

All i needed was the connector that goes into the coolant overflow, which can't really be bought by itself except from china and shipping is either 2 days or 2 months. It also looks like a lot of the chinese replacements might be blockage replacements(deletes?), so chances are they might be the wrong part.

I wish Whoosh listed the motorcraft part number on their website. This is definitely a part that if you have 100k on the odo and you haven't replaced it, you should have it on hand. When it does go out you're shit out of luck until you can get a replacement. Mine completely crumbled when I went to unplug it. I wasn't even working on that part, lol. Unless there's one available at a local dealership you're looking at 2+ days ship time, minimum. So for $50 this is worth keeping on hand, in my opinion.
