First oil change and 4.3 Quarts put me above the Max line..

Did my first oil change at 5k and afterwards I noticed on my oil dipstick that the engine was slightly overfilled, about 1/2 an inch past the full mark. I did a search and it seems that this has been seen before. I have a 2015 with the updated dipstick and after draining approximately 1/2 a quart I am right at the Max mark.

Seems to be that 4 quarts should put me right at the max line on my dipstick for future oil changes.

Anyone else experience this?

You're never going to fully drain the engine of oil. 4 quarts is pretty standard.

When you changed the filter, it's supposed to be 4.3 quarts. Since I'm guessing you changed the filter, it's weird that it would still be more. I noticed mine was slightly over the MAX mark when I took it to the dealer to get it changed. So now I will just put 4 quarts and add if necessary.

That's what I plan on doing in the future. 4 quarts and top off if needed.

When you measured the overage on the dipstick; had you run the engine yet?

Yes. Drove it for about 2 days/45 miles. Shut the car down for 10 minutes and checked it.

Not be an alarmist, but be on the look out for a failing turbo seal. I had that happen after a quick lube joint filled me up like that. I don't know how many times it takes to hurt... For me, it was about 12000 miles or on the third change before I noticed the puffs of blue smoke out of the exhaust and oil residue on the tips. After that I started doing my own changes, and 4 quarts is it every time.

Again, I cannot stress enough that you SHOULD NOT be overly concerned; simply aware. The cause would be that when overfilled the turbo cannot drain properly.

Another reason why I change the oil when the engine is warm and let it drain for at least 20 minutes. But it also helps that I work at a shop with lift and tool access.

Silly question, but is your car parked on flat ground when you are checking the oil level?

Yeah 4.3 quarts is a tad too much, if you get your oil in one of those 5 quart "easy pour" jugs it's easy to overfill.

Checking it in my garage. I used a lift and I let it drain for 20 minutes. I used a 5 quart jug and filled to the 4 quart mark and then added 1 cup of oil which was approx. 03 quarts. Next time I'll use 4 quarts. Thanks for all the feedback. After draining about half a quart the dipstick reads right at the Max line.

Redline it a few times, burn some oil off

I like to fill it about 4 and then start it up and check after. Its easier to add than to take oil out but 4 seems to be the magic number.
