If you drove 350 miles a week (70 daily) in Florida, what tire would you use?

Hello Everyone:

Like it says, I live in South Florida so no snow. I will not be racing the car in tracks, however I do like to drive the car well. (85 to 90 mph).
The OEM potenzas as good as they are, with their high wear are not going to be an option. I would like something I can get at least close to 35,000 miles out of and its not going to break my bank either. I don't want to put noisy crappy cheap tires either. Looking for middle of the road. $85 to $100 range per tire before all the essentials (Mounting, balancing, etc etc)

So Please, give me your suggestions by your experience. I have used the Hankook Ventus in my 5.0 in the past and they did a good job. The Khumo tires I had in the SVT focus had horrible, HORRIBLE road noise, as well as the Eagle F1 in my Fusion Sport. I did check and they make the Hankook in our size.

I've always been a fan of the Hankooks. Those were my first choice but they were on back order at the time. I ended up getting Nitto Neo Gens instead. They're a pretty good all season and seem a tiny bit wider than the potenzas, but the road noise is a little louder i will admit.

looking for a decent tire in that price range is going to be tough. I drive around 275 miles a week and got tired of the terrible noise and vibration that came from my Yokohama S-Drives after their second summer. I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Super Sports and found them to be ideal for highway use, some spirited driving, and wet traction. My dad uses Pilot Super Sports on all of his cars because of their quiet operation, long life (for a performance tire), and ability to operate well in the wet. I drove his Fusion Sport with PSS tires this summer when my ST was getting new brakes and I was shocked at how well the tires were in the wet. I ditched my S-Drives a few weeks later and it was one of the best things I did for my ST.

I also had a set of Kuhmo's on my SVT Focus and did not like them. When I sold the SVT Focus to my dad, he got rid of the tires for some Michelins and last year put PSS on the SVT Focus. Besides the one set of Kuhmo tires, I have ran Yokohama tires since 1999 on my cars. The S-Drives aged terribly compared to the other tires I had used from them.

What size MPSS are you using on the FiST?

I run Indy 500s. They should last at least 30k miles daily driven while giving a lot of performance. Relatively low road noise, fantastic wet traction. I'm also in FL.

+1 on the Indys, I wore through the OEMs in 9k (yes, really, 9k miles...) and have had the Indy's since and currently sitting at 20k with plenty of tread. Great wet performance and ride feel, also in Fl

Those of you with the Indy 500's- how is handling in the dry, turn in crispness/steering feel/grip?

To the OP, when I saw your post, that's the tire I thought of, I'm thinking about it when my oem Bridgestones wear out.

Thank you everybody. There seems to be a lot of people that like the Indy's. I think it will be the Indy 500 or the Hankooks Ventus. it will be done soon, cause I am up to 16,000 miles on my FIST (and I got mine new with 5 miles in December) they still have good grip and some thread but Yep, I drive..lol..They are getting there!

Also consider the Dunlop DZ102s IF you can use/accept a 205/45-17 size (but then if that, and cost were no object, I would go to the Pilot Super Sports, as BRGT350 did, [wink]).

I expect that they will outlast the Indys mileage wise, but, they will NOT perform as well being a 'dated', MUCH older design than the Indys, and now the 500s are available in our EXACT factory size.

I like the Michelin. If you are diligent on rotation the longer treadlife should offset the added cost
