With the new Ford Focus ST capturing the heart?s of hot hatch enthusiasts stateside, fans have been clambering for an even hotter variant. Like the Europe-only RS line, customers were hoping for a chance to have an American-bound version of their own. But that may never happen.

Sitting down with Ford?s European chief Stephen Odell recently, Autocar found out that ?There?s nothing to talk about,? regarding a new RS. ?It?s great that we have a proud past with RS, and it?s clear it has acted as a halo product and a way of linking to our racing programs, but for now there is nothing to say,? continued Odell.

This is surprising news considering a near confirmation back in February, with spy shots of the RS testing. But, reports say that a 330-horsepower RS could interfere with the new Mustang and its sales formula.

That being said, a Ford Focus RS slotted above the Focus and Fiesta ST does sound extremely enticing. We?ll just have to wait and see how this one pans out?

I don't see this happening unfortunately, even if it did happen, at around $40K, there are better choices to be had.

This reminds me of the stunt Dodge pulled where they launched the new Dodge Dart with all these soon to be motor options and the SRT4 in the works only to put off the top of the line Dart GT and Kill the SRT4 for all intent and purpose .. I was SO ready for a new SRT4 I even drove the new Dart Turbo. which left me wondering what all the fuss was about it is weak in that chassis.. Oh well maybe this will open the Door for a WRC Fiesta RS ;) we can all dream baby dream...

That's really too bad, I was kind of wondering if there would be a market now that the new Mustangs are more affordable and utilizes that great 2.3 Ecoboost.

From everything I have heard so far, that new 2.3 Eco-Boost is going to be a monster! I wonder if Ford is going to show-horn it into the Focus ST along with the face lift.... or even better, a Fusion ST / SHO with AWD.

We sure can dream right guys [mecry]

It probably won't take long before someone does an engine swap.

Sucks, as much as I'm liking my FIST and ford lately I would have given it a hard look come my next purchase. Being that I'm gonna go either New Golf R or A3(only if they bring manual). Prob wound up with a mk7 GTI though. Right now with the outgoing mk6 gti and a tune(revo, apr) there putting down 270hp and just shy of 300ftlbs tq with an intake. Without intake 255/290. Can't wait to see what comes of this newer motor/platform. Just fingers crossed they come properly built now that there no longer being made in Germany but Mexico like everything else lately.
