Odd whirring noise from 1000-1200 rpms

Hey guys...

Just picked up my new to me, but slightly used FiST! Really excited about the car but have noticed a couple weird things. First off the clutch pedal creaks which is annoying since you feel it in your foot (seems to be an inherent bad design where the plastic under the dash needs to be lubed?).

The thing thats really weird is from 1000-1200 rpms. I noticed it last night when coming to a stop sign, or pulling into my garage. It doesn't matter if the clutch is engaged or not. If I lightly rev , 1000-1300 there is a whirring noise, it almost sounds like a bearing, or its intake noise, or it kinda sounds like a dragging caliper. I saw another thread where a guy posted a video in a parking garage and its just the induction noise at really low rpm, mine sounds similar but I don't think its that. I don't remember this on the brand new fiesta I drove at the dealer.

Any thoughts? Edit - video below... does the intake just really sound weird at 1100-1200 rpms (most easily noticed towards the end of the video )

I have the same clicking clutch problem. I took it to my dealership and had them look at it. They said it's suppose to do that and couldn't help me. I've just gotten used it to.

Lol yes stock...its really not THAT bad. The garage and camera is making it worse. Its just weird that its only in that small rev range

Well thanks for making me paranoid ....

Its not nearly as loud in person... and the sound in the video is echoing off my garage walls. In the video it almost sounds like an exhaust leak (hell, it could be an intake clamp loose).

Sucks buying a car under 10k and immediately correcting issues. I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

It actually sounds similar to this guy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyxRGpbSykw

Right - you would only hear the noise if you're letting rpms drop through the 1100-1300 range (example - rolling to a stop sign, and if you're not paying attention you probably wont notice it). Or you would hear it when going through a parking garage because the sound is echoing, and in a parking garage environment, you're probably hovering above and below that 1100-1300 rpm range.

My clutch pedal clicks too.
So this is why I don't get...

I've had 25+ manual cars - no car is supposed to have a CREAKING clutch unless its a design flaw. How can Ford engineer such an amazingly performing vehicle yet by design it has some relaly really dumb quirks (took this tonight). Also, my phone apparently really picks up sound - its not this loud but yes its for sure audible. You guys that took "its supposed to sound like that" for an answer - does a new FiST sound like that? No. Unfortunately I hope that the FiST isn't a car where the best mechanic - is the radio... just turn it up and dumb stuff disappears.

Sidenote - my appointment with Ford is scheduled for next Monday - yay!

Another video of the low rpm stuff... it actually almost sounds like a gurgling... which I can think is the sound symposer engaging that early? Its definitely coming from the left side of the engine bay...

Is it this noise?

If so mine does it too and it seems to be considered normal.

Mine does the same as well above 1500 rpm on throttle, figured it was just intake noise.

So i did link to that video and thought mine sounded similar....im not talking about a noise at 1500 rpm. Mine is for sure from 1000-1200 rpms...slight on throttle or off throttle.

That hollow sucking noise at very low boost levels (possibly vacuum, haven't checked) is normal. I have an open element filter CAI and you can really hear it.

Yeah, I thought it was my brake pads rubbing lightly against rotor when I first got the car. After I dropped in a Mountune filter (basically rebranded Green Filter), the noise is more pronounced, and sounds more like "gurgling." It's definitely an intake noise. Although OP's noise seems really pronounced. Have you checked the air filter? Make sure it's seated properly.

Can you guys do me a favor... Lightly rev the car to 1500 rpms and let it drop. Do you hear the tone chnage at 1200 rpms? Dealer today told me its normal. I didnt believe them so i went and got the keys to a new fiesta they had. It made the same kind of tone change but not as loud.

Thanks for your help

Yes! Ok so I hear the change in tone on your car too - I'm not sure if its as loud as mine. You hear what I'm talking about don't you? I still think there may be some kind of intake leak somewhere.
