Last summer, with heat holding back performance and the end not in sight, I headed for mountains. FIST loves the mountains. Cool air, twisty roads, reminded me of a bird dog's first hunt, when the dog realizes this is what I am here for. Joy.

Felt a little guilty driving back to hot flatlands. Maybe Mishimoto is going to end this slavery.

The car did overheat on my way home from work on Sunday. Cruising at 70 mph in 106 degree heat, the red coolant light came on.

Interestingly, I have a 2014 FiST and it doesn't have an overheating issue...even in our near 100 degree heat in Middle TN. My son is having the opposite experience with his 2015 FiST with overheating issues in California. He has NO mods and his Ford dealer cannot find anything wrong. It sure seems like a systemic problem with some ST's. Short of waiting for a higher capacity radiator to be offered by the aftermarket, I don't know what he can do to alleviate the problem (though he is seriously considering "dumping" the car).

I've been trying to decide where to take it. I've had terrible experiences with all the local dealers. Last time my car was in to one of the local dealers for an oil change, they somehow managed to destroy my Cobb intake.

It sure seems like a systemic problem with some ST's. It's frustrating on multiple accounts. Any 2015 model year car should not overheat while cruising on the freeway, regardless of ambient temperature. And it's extremely aggravating paying for a HPDE and spending a majority of the time during my sessions watching Focus ST's and various other cars lap the track at will with no issues.

it'd be interesting for those with overheating issues to try Ford's suggestion in the owners manual of increasing water content and decreasing coolant concentration to 40% to see if it helps.

He told me his ST overheated again while driving from Sacramento to Santa Cruz 2 weeks ago which forced him to pull over until it cooled down. His fianc? is now trying to convince him to sell the car and get a GTI, but I hate to see him take the financial loss on the car. I'm not sure how this situation is going to turn out...BTW, my nephew has a Focus ST and does not have any overheating issues in spite of living in the heat we have in the Southeast.

Sounds like he needs to get [MENTION=582]FordService[/MENTION] involved. It's a wonder what a little corporate pressure will do to dealers :)

I've already suggested that to him, but he says that he is so busy with work (he owns his own media company) that he needs to depend on the dealer to service the car and doesn't wasn't to get tied up in a pi$$ing contest with Ford or his dealer. He is in Vancouver (with his ST) right now doing a project with Disney and then it's off to Salt Lake City (flying) for another project with Warner Brothers and then back to the NorthWest (probably with the ST) for a project with Microsoft. It goes on like that for months.
Ironically, he did the voice over last year for Ford's Escape national ad campaign...now it looks like he is no fan.

Thanks for the suggestion, though....

Well ive been in 112 degree weather latey and i have an early 2014 build st and dont seem to have over heating issues even running with the AC on. I also have 34k miles on the car. For the guys with over heating problems what are the build dates?

The car does not overheat if driven normally. Cannot stress that enough.

Try taking your car to an autoX on a 112f day, I am sure you will experience the same things we did.
It is not a defect, it's a question of thermal efficiency, the stock radiator can't keep up.

I am also in an early 2014, hard tracking in Fla summer heat results in water temps 230 and oil pushing 260. But have never had the overheating light come on, have no issues with daily driving, cruising 80 w/AC, etc. Cobb I/C and 2J DP are obviously helping.

My thought is that tracking temps are higher than I would like, but if the car is not complaining, maybe i should not either.

My other thought is I would prefer lower temps on track so following the MM threads.

I could see that. I thought i read a couple guys over heating on just hot days not racing

this is from a recent canyon run. oil and coolant temps reached higher than I'd like on a 100+ degrees f day (246f/oil, 229f/coolant). this is on an e40 map, which normally doesn't see negative ignition corrections or knock events. however when the temps are excessive the story changes.

Wow, this is crazy. So far, the only issues I've had with my car were:

A. I tried taking off from a light WOT, and when I shifted into 2nd gear, it was like my car died. It became completely unresponsive. The overall opinion is that it was probably heat related.
B. I had my car shut itself off while filling up at a gas station.
C. Yesterday, I got in my car to leave work, and the screens and everything shut off and it gave me the double honk as if I exited my car with the key while it was running.

The car definitely gets heat soaked very easily with just spirited driving on the highway, so I can only imagine what a track day would do to it.

right, I wasn't the least bit worried, nor worried now as I continue to run the map. the car was running good otherwise. I'd still like to bring those temps down. There was another guy who had the idiot light for overheating come on during the canyon run and it significantly affected the power output of his car.

My temps exceeded that just cruising on the freeway on a hot day. Taking it in to the dealer to have the cooling system pressure and flow tested next week.

My car is the among the first batch of 2015 model year cars. Bought it in August of 2014 fresh off the delivery truck.
