ST OEM brake pads......

I am one of those who dislikes having to clean my wheels every day, because the OEM pads shed material at a high rate, covering
the wheels in brake dust. I went to O'Reilly's auto parts today. They can order ceramic pads for the ST.......$75 for all 4 wheels. Questions: Do ceramic pads shed less material? Should I buy these pads and have them installed? What would be the downside, if any, of the ceramic pads? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

OEM is a semi-metallic pad, the dust is a price you pay for great braking performance.

Ceramics will definitely dust less, but at a cost of performance.

I am in the same boat as you, I hate how bad they dust but the braking performance is awesome for a stock vehicle.

I'm awaiting different options myself. I know Hawk has pads for us now, but not sure the results compared to stock. Someone else will be able to chime in I'm sure. [emoji106]

Your best bet for low dust is auto zone cmax pads.

Thanks for your comments.......I understand the performance issue. The car is my daily driver. I rarely push the it anywhere near it's limits. For my type of driving, the brakes are probably too good.......don't like the "grabby" low speed performance. I am willing to give up some performance to get less dust. I guess my only concern would be wear on the rotors. I assume a harder compound pad may wear them faster. I am very light on the brakes.....my car has almost 14,000 on it, and my brakes have a lot left in them.
Thanks again. I appreciate your thoughts.

Yes those are ceramic pads. They tend to get a high life out of them. They do give up a little on the performance side at least on the gt500. But for normal use there great. I have used them on an F150 and sebring.

Hmm sounds like brake pads might be one of my first mods... Picking up my car tommrow and I got ocd issues with my vehicles and dirty wheels all the time will not fly lol. Curious to hear others report on the hawk pads as far as performance standard goes as I would feel more comfortable with them than the autozone stuff.

they're great so far. I also got stoptech slotted rotors, ssbls and ATE superblue dot 4. after the install they seem to be a bit soft but over that last couple weeks they have hardened up. I noticed today gettin on the car a little bit that you get a bit of pad smell after gettin on them for a few but i never got any brake fade. The real test will come on the 23rd when I head to the Nurburgring.

I recently learned today from a reliable source that there are 2 factory brake pad options starting in 2015. If you order the all-season tires, you get a different pad compound that isn't as aggressive nor as dusty. Standard summer tires get the aggressive pads. I don't know anyone that has an all-season equipped ST to ask, but this might be the solution. I love the performance of the stock pads, but cleaning wheels daily is getting old. For a car that spends 99% of the time commuting to and from work, I could live with a touch less performance with less dusting. Also, I am noticing the factory pad dust is starting to stain the white wheels. When I ran Hawk HPS on my SVT Focus, I had to repaint the wheels after a summer due to the corrosive nature of the dust. The Hawk HP+ pads on my Mustang make horrible amounts of dust, but it doesn't stain the wheels. For that car, I don't mind since it rarely leaves the garage.

I think hawk makes great brake pads. But they still make dust. Ive used them on all my mustangs. They may be a little less dust than the factory st pads but cant confirm since im still on stock pads.

Any part numbers? I see many options via rock auto. May ask the dealership when i pick it up.

We'll need a report on your ring run.... I'll likely venture up there first w/ the Fiesta ST when it arrives, then later, I'll bring the Shelby.

I prefer the OE pads.
Sometimes the good aftermarket pads although do produce less dust, it is because they are a harder material and take the rotors out quicker.

Dave are you on a second or third set now? I think I read in another post you have some good mileage on the car now.

The OEM pads are literally the best stock pad I've ever experienced. The dust is just unreal.

I changed the front pads at about 20K.
I plan to change the rear on Tuesday, almost 25K.

Interesting trend between you two. Seems like a common mileage. Still undecided as to what I'll do when the time comes.
