I have 0 experience so someone please correct me if im wrong but I believe when you first get your turbo installed your will get a very dialed back "base" tune for your tuner to start with. And from there go through probably 3 or 4 or more revisions before its finally at 100% of its potential

This is true, but it would behoove you to run the “snot” out of it after your tuner has had a chance to atleast look over your datalog once and consider running the car extremely hard on say revision B.

You are correct and its pretty hard to beat the snot out of it on a base tune because they are usually limited in boost and act kinda stock. Its the first revision after base that starts to kick things off. Usually by the third things are pretty dialed in Depending on the tuner . Then you can beat the snot out of it. Lol
I will say this my car was nice on 91 it was fast. Then I did E30 and now its freaking silly I walk on cars at the tap of the gas on the freeway that I should have no business with. Its funny as hell too because they catch up and I hit the gas and do it all over again.
If I decide to go with larger injectors? :ROFLMAO: Ya Tune+ !!!!

What kind of numbers were you getting between 91 and E30?

I was hitting around 284 whp and 284i ft lbs TQ on 91 on E30 I have seen 300 whp and highest tq was 340 ft llbs . Basically I picked up around 16 hp but picked up a lot more TQ . Now if I added Injectors per Adam’s dyno tested fact I would gain another 30-40 HP on Injectors alone. suffice to say my car would be pretty damn crazy. If tossed a HPFP in their I am sure could hit 380 Hp as it is I would say with injectors I would be at around 330 HP and and easy 350 ft lbs of torque. As the E30 tune was literally just an adjustment for E30 because I had no more room for tuning more fuel wise. It was like I was pretty much grabbing the very last bit of power I could grab with the s280 on stock fueling.
I bought an unlimited tune to start with as it was only around $100 more at the time. I can tune as much as I can fuel for so I add stuff my tunes are paid for.

Gotta love DI until its time for a system upgrade lol. Not as cheap as the older cars used to be

Nice.. I'll be stoked if I can hit 284/284 on 91. How's it like with traction on E30? Do you get a lot of wheel spin?

Ya no doubt. Though I think the HPFP is expensive because they are not a lot of our cars numbers wise. Think of it this way if there were as many FiST‘s as there were 240sx’s a HPFP would be half the price because of the sheer number they could sell . They made over 160K S13’s alone.

Well I am running super sticky tires so Wheelspin is not that much of issue. After I put in the Damond motorsports passenger side engine mount the TQ steer all but disappeared. Then I did the E30 and the TQ steer is back lol. I need a LSD bad it would definitely even out the pull to lessen TQ steer.
If Adam tunes you you should be able to land in that ballpark on 91. My vdyno charts are a few pages back in this thread.

Are you going off the AP estimated numbers? I have almost exactly the same setup and I'm hitting around 285hp/tq on E30, barely hitting 250 on 91. I'm also tuned by Tune+.

On this note I dont want to deal with going through revisions with my turbo install. Ive found 2 shops that sound comfortable doing my tune.

Antspec in CA and UMS tuning in az which is where I live. You guys have any opinions on going this route vs having a more well known tuner do a live remote dyno tune? My turbo should be about 5 weeks out

Are those dyno numbers? That seems much lower than what I would expect most people are getting.

Just my .02, I wouldn't want a random tuner with little to no experience on this platform do my tune. Although I believe Cobb Socal is now AntSpec? I've had 4-5 etunes over the years on this and my previous platform and I have no complaints. If 4th gear logs on the street is what worries you then that's understandable. I have big roads in Texas so it's easy for me, I have 3 spots close by. Willing to bet the normal tuners (Dizzy, Tune+, Stratified etc) will not only make more power but more efficiently because they have thousands on hours on these motors. I wouldn't want to risk a motor just for the sake of getting a tune done right away, most of the etuners can easily spot issues with just a log.

no my numbers were based off vdyno. But I saw similar numbers on my AP. In fact I saw 300/300 on my AP lol
When you say you have nearly the same setup are you running a crossover pipe? How much boost are pushing . On stock turbos a few bolt ons might not do much but on a bigger turbo setup it could make a difference.

Revisions aren't a bad thing to deal with. It's a cool process to watch unfold. Sure, it's not going to be super fast the day you get it installed, but you get the best tune by taking data logs in real driving conditions and using a tuner that's experienced with the platform. If you have to have it running hard day 1 then try to schedule a live remote tune with any of the major tuners.

Is the crossover something that needs to be tuned for full benefit?
I'm still waiting for mine to get shipped, but I may get a tune before it comes and then put the crossover on afterward.
Cause the rest of my parts are ready to go, the turbo and dp.

No I put my crossover on back when I was stock and running OTS stuff. Though it is one of the few intake parts that Dizzy saw HP and TQ improvements on a Dyno. So I am assuming its helping my overall numbers. The test is on Dizzy’s blog he tested a lot of intakes and a crossover pipe by itself to see.

Yeah, I remember reading about that test. I wasn't sure if he just used the same tune for all those test runs or did he do any adjustments based on the different set up.
If the crossover can give gains without a tune, then I'll just go ahead and start my tuning process now.
And install the crossover next month or whenever it comes, probably after my tuning is done.
