Hello, was just wondering if it was worth installing an aftermarket oil pressure/temperature guage?

As the car does not have either. Would this be worth the investment? I have the fear of my engine overheating lol

Thanks for any feedback.

I would personally be more worried about the coolant temperature... you could purchase a COBB accessport and use that to monitor certain temperatures and variables, including coolant temperature. You can use that without modifying the car to fit an "aftermarket gauge"

Iv upgraded the radiator (airtech), the thermostat (motorad) and replaced the temperature sensor.

Was just wondering if the oil pressure/temperature are worth monitoring. I will be installing a new oil pressure switch. Just wanted to know if its worth adding the guage.

Peace of mind is worth a lot, however a oil temp gauge isn't really needed on our engines... The filter is attached to a cooling block and has lines that exchange temp with the coolant. If oil temps start climbing, so will coolant so that track that🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes an oil temp gauge is necessary. So is an oil cooler.

I can’t get more than a few laps when the ambient temps are above 30C before the oil & coolant require cooldown laps. Ymmv

Cheers, I should have said it is not for track use, just my daily driver. Installing a new engine, doing some mods to get her to about 250hp, but nothing to crazy lol

Then the answer is no, driving on the street barely gets the oil up to operating temp. You can monitor an estimation of oil temp with an AP, so just make sure you have an AP to tune the new engine.

Cobb Accessport, but you probably use something else for MAP based tuning over there…
*MAF based in Europe, and access ports aren't used there 😕 you can use an OBD2 dongle like this along with a related app.. I personally prefer Torquepro but any similar app should be able to display engine information.

Yes, it is not worth buying a Cobb AP if you will not be able to use it for tunes anyway (IF it will even work with their OBD systems overseas [dunno]).

I use an Ultra Gauge Plus as a daily monitoring device, and it monitors the same amount of actual reportable PIDs as the AP, just without any of the extrapolated/interpolated/guesstimated metrics available on the Cobb handheld.
(I am not sure if these are offered in Europe or not.)

I'm curious, has anyone here used a oil pressure + temp sensor to replace the OEM pressure switch? I'm considering the Bosch PST-F1 with a m12x1.5 to m10x1 adapter, but I'm wondering if there are any better options.
