Ironically, my C6 driving brother (who is even MORE anti-import nameplate than I am) actually suggested a WRX for me over the FiST, knowing how into AWD/rally I am, but somehow he was thinking they could be had for UNDER $24K OUT THE DOOR.

The final nail in the coffin of that idea for me though was the fact that Toyota owns most of Scoobie now, and I DESPISE the Nippon Giant as a company.
I almost regret buying my car. The interior sucks for a 30k car. The Fiesta ST I'm buying is fully loaded with Navigation and everything else for 22k. Granted it's 2 completely different platforms, but these same options push the price to 35k in subaru and that's the price for a base STI. Plus I hate that subaru dealerships will not negotiate price.

This is what ultimately decided my choice, well that and 0% apr [cool]! I could not justify the cost of a new WRX over the FiST with the dealer incentives, not to mention insurance! From the STI to the FiST my policy went down $600 a year! With a WRX it would have been a difference of maybe $100 a year.

Keep it stock looking, and add a full on, tuned, DHM big turbo kit and a limited slip diff and sticky tires.

That would shock quite a few much more costly imports you would come up against. [wink]
I plan on doing some tasteful appearance mods just to make the car mine. Nothing crazy.

Yep, literally zero way in hell anyone is getting one for 24K OTD lol. On the other hand, you can easily get a Fiesta for that.

Pretty sure there was a study out there that named the WRX/STI the most expensive cars to insure under 40K.

I can tell you as a fact it is. I'm 39 years old with clean driving record and once I take it off my policy tomorrow, my insurance drops about 40 bucks a month.

I must have missed that study :) I always thought Hondas were pricey to insure because of the theft rate.

I ended up getting mine for ~$19K OTD with the 0% financing, but that is a base 400A stripped model.
(I wanted to start with the lightest weight version possible, and would have even taken a 'club sport'-like option with touch screen/radio/cruise control/power windows & mirrors, and maybe even AC DELETE IF it were offered!!! LOL)

concerning AWD vs the Fiesta ST in the winter. My wife has an AWD Escape Titanium and she thought it did pretty good in the winter, until we were driving my ST with winter tires and she was shocked I could climb hills without any wheel spin. The all-seasons on the AWD Escape lost traction easily, traction control would kick in, and the Escape would just sit there. The ST on the other hand with winter tires, didn't lose traction and could handle the snow without an issue. We put a set of winter tires on her Escape, and now it is a tank. Living along Lake Michigan, we get well over 100" of snow a year and it isn't uncommon to find 12" to fall over night. I have yet to get stuck with the ST in winter with proper tires. The only issue I have had was when we had 4 foot snow drifts in the driveway and 2 feet of fresh snow everywhere. The snow was too deep to try and drive the ST or any car. I took our Escape that day and was one of the only people to make it to work. Besides that freak event, no issues with the ST in the winter, even lowered. Tires are the key!

This is excellent feedback. I'm so happy to hear this car can hold its own in inclimate weather.

^^^Yes, the ONLY thing I can see stopping this car with real winter tires on it is snow over the top of the bumper, or so high that the car 'high centers' on it!! [crazyeye]

I was shopping for a car end of 2015. Mk7 GTI, WRX and FiST were my top three.

For me, the fun-to-value/cost of the FiST simply could not be beat, and FiST was most overall fun of the 3 (at legal speeds) to boot.
