Does anyone else have gear noise/whine when under load in a gear but silence when coasting?

My other car has a T5 so I'm used to it there but didn't expect it on a new, modern car.

I have 360 miles.

Crap. So your transmission is silent? Man, I didn't want to have to take it back in for service.

I can't say mine is silent. Might take it to the stealership before I get my downpipe installed. I get some gear noise in the lower gears intermittently.

I can hear my transmission in the lower gears (1, 2 and 3) when traveling slowly under load. The noise is a bit like a ringing sound.

Maybe I should record a video with the windows up.

I just bought mine and I hear it in first and second at low rpm and accelerating.

Thanks. Not in any other gears? I can hear it in 6th even... when just barely giving it throttle. If I let off to coast in gear, it goes away. It's like it only makes the noise when there is pressure on one side of the gear teeth versus the other.

My car has been making a whining noise in 4th-6th gears. Just picked it up last Tuesday.

I've noticed mine has a high pitched hum when I'm in 5th-6th gears but goes away when I'm coasting. It's not noticeable if the radio is on but it's worrying nonetheless. I'm going in for my first oil change at 1000miles so I'll ask about it then and report back with results.

Sounds exactly like mine. Mine is now loud enough that I can hear it over the radio.

I took my car in last week. The problem was what I suspected all along. A faulty Output shaft. They ordered the parts and it should be fixed next week.

I bet that's my problem as well. Did they mention what was faulty about it?

They didn't really provide much info. I'll have to ask when I go back in.

Thanks! How many miles are on your car? Can you describe the symptoms and noise?

It currently has 1600 miles, but the noise has been present since about 200 miles (I can't remember exactly). The noise started out in just 5th and 6th, but has now moved to 3rd and 4th as well. The noise is a whine that varies in pitch with speed, and only occurs under load.

Mine has done that since I drove off the lot with 45 miles. Have you noticed it's more prominent when you're above 50mph?
