Will Toyota ever get back to real designs not the comic book look? It could be the greatest driving car in the world but the ugly keeps me away. Same with Honda. The Koreans are making some nice looking quality cars..........

Is it a fair statement to say that this is more of a Focus RS level car than Fiesta ST with respect to size and weight?
It's a bit smaller than the Focus, bigger than the FiST, but definitely gonna put down better performance metrics than the FiST. Now, subjective performance is another story.

WHY GIVE US THE RIGHT DRIVETRAIN IN THE WRONG CAR THOUGH
Hot hatches are a dying breed so I'll take it! Better than nothing.

Really might try to get one of these, once more details release. Big fan of the GR Yaris we never got and with Subaru taking the STI away this might be the car for me.

I'm a rally nerd, so the GR Four badge has me nostalgic for the GT Four of the old Celicas. And let's not forget the Corolla was Toyota's other rally car before the Yaris... not that any of this matters, but I still want the car.

It looks good. Reminds me of the old WRX hatch.
It is most definitely going to cut into the STI (maybe even some WRX??) sales IF priced decently, NOT gouged too badly, and there is some inventory/not too limited a production run. [wink] [thumb]

I am not in love with the very front hood line/grille fascia treatment, but it is not bad for the performance and rest of the aesthetics of this ride.

Truly AMAZING that they went ahead with AWD, yes, again IF this is the truth.

Between this, the new BRZ/GR86 and the new Z, I'm just happy we still get fun cars before the slew of expensive alien spaceships electric VUS trend that is forming.
I agree, it's nice to have some options, especially ones with manual transmissions.

I've dealt with car dealers many times now but these were the worst. Did the play-them-against-each-other dance and it didn't work probably cause I bought the car when it was discontinued with only a few available (late 2019); I think the limited stock dried up soon after my purchase. One tried to bait and switch the ST-Line, one tried to scam me in the finance room (cash purchase but the form was set up for a loan), etc... Previous car purchases I've had 1 or 2 things happen to me, but for this Ford car every dealer tried to pull something on me except for the one that sold the car at a higher price but with no idiocy. Playing the whole car dealer game doesn't work when they don't honor what they said when you go in person.

I'll stop with the off topic now, sorry!
Sounds like you actually went to a dealer in person before setting a price, not a good way to shop price. Online email buying stops the lies and BS and agreements are in writing, they do not even get my phone number until we have agreed on price and I am making a deposit. With the limited options on a FiST before the end most walked away with big rebates and large price drops.

All dealers are snakes and are not Ford, they are a private business. Be willing to drive a little to save, local dealers here think that a good price is taking off all the add-on charges they added over sticker!

Yes indeed. What a good era that was, both the Celica days and the Corolla days with him.

Also a fan of the Celica ST-205 era... ya know... before the banning of the car and subsequently scaring off Toyota from WRC for 20 years.
Well, they (TTE) DID get caught blatantly cheating with that inlet restrictor bypass device, even as ingenious as it was. [wink]

A fascinating story, really, even though it's a shame they resorted to cheating. If I recall, even the FIA was impressed by it.

I am a Ford/M-Sport fan today (obviously), but the current Yaris WRC car is just a nice reminder of Toyota's success in rallying, was happy to see them re-enter.

Any word on MSRP yet?
Guessing 36,995 give or take a few obnoxious markups. I never buy 1st cut so I'm realistically looking at them a yr or 2 after they hit the lots. Plus I still MUST live my FiST with an s280 fire in its belly

Ok friend bought a 2020 Corolla in late 19 . Ya a base model Corolla comes in at 20k but after markups it goes up. Honestly this is Focus RS all over again except uglier and less HP. Toyotas are notoriously heavy cars. So do expect this thing to come in lightweight per the leaked page it has carbon fiber parts to try and beat the weight hmmm sounds familiar.

This car is going to come in at 35k starting and Toyota dealers are famous for over charging whenever they can so expect huge markups per currently inventory issues. Expect to see prices in the 40-45k range. At that price it’s a no go in my book.

I bought my FiST because it was bang for the buck. I should add the RS was/is a much better looking car than the GR Corolla.

In the 35-40 range I will stay with a new Z , Otherwise I will save some. scratch and get a GR86 . This firmly cements my hot hatch days began and end with a FiST.

A RS is going for 40k still, so I would expect this to be in the range of that on the higher side unless the skimped on interior. I wouldnt be suprised if they wanted 50k, tbh.

Yes, the FIA said it was soooo stealthy and well hidden as to why they did not discover it any sooner than they did.

Quite a bit of out of the box engineering to accomplish that one, I will give them that (well beyond Smokey Yunick's, and any of Penske's shenanigans in the old unibody based Trans Am series, that's for sure!).
